I've noticed that my mind can be pretty active during my sessions. If your mind wanders and you start to think about a lot of different things during a paraliminal session is it still effective at all?

It also makes me wonder if I ever get to alpha when this happens?

I sometimes want to rewind the tape when I notice my mind wandering.

That's okay, because Paraliminals are designed to "confuse" the conscious mind. Since you cannot consciously follow two voices at once, your conscious mind will automatically start to daydream, or think about other things, or go into a trance, whatever. What happens then, is that the positive messages reach your other-than-conscious mind. There is less resistance by your non-conscious mind for change and programming new behaviors or beliefs. As long as you have stated your goal before you listen, you should still notice benefits from listening.

Sandy,
wouldn't then Mind Chatter or Daydreaming make Photoreading more efficient?
I always wondered why, when Photoreading, you'd want to chant and keep your mind off other stuff, when you want the material your PR to go into your other-than-conscious ... wouldn't it be much easier to let your mind roam freely?

just wonderin'

Great question!

When you listen to Paraliminals you are usually trying to "re-wire" beliefs that have become part of your life, that effect the things you do, the way you react to situations or don't react, etc.

When you PhotoRead, the purpose is to absorb information, and in turn develop insight and opinions, or knowledge and skills. The ideal state for learning, i.e. absorbing information, is a relaxed alert state. In this case you would not want the conscious mind to interfere the entire time you are PhotoReading.

I'll ask Paul for some further insight and explanation.

Hi People,

I know that anxiety experienced during a session is not quite the same as mind-chatter, but maybe this could help as it helps with my anxiety during some sessions.

I got the idea from Paul Scheele on the Anxiety-Free tape, before the session starts he tells you to take a good look at your surroundings, and if necessary to come back here and remember your surroundings if you felt anxious. On other tapes he tells you to look at a point on the ceiling or wall in front of you before the session starts. By accident I noticed in one session and sessions after that, if I kept my mind on (eyes still closed) my surroundings or that point on the ceiling or wall, the whole session through, or when I felt anxious, I would then feel much less anxious. I also found that I could focus in the middle of the voices and not listen to one or the other. This could have been Paul's intention.

Just an idea,
Cheers for now,
Grant

I have great difficulty not listening to both sides of the conversation. I'm quite adept (lucky me) at following them both with no problems. I try to center my thoughts down the center and focus on the background sound (waves or something) and that works but it takes a huge amount of concentration and it's exhausting for me.

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on this?

Hi Tracey

One way that works to take your conscious focus off the voices is to focus on your feelings during a session. Focus on your feelings and your mind will wander.

Also try some of the release techniques in Natural Brilliance. Or just say "Release...real ease" to yourself. If your mind wanders follow the story of it... that is, let your mind naturally make associations.

Another thing...make a picture in your mind of your favourite place while letting your mind wander... let the odd word you hear consciously trigger a "story" you can follow at your favourite place (maybe a stream), eg. look at the sky, trees, water birds. Focus on how you feel there. All this is to allow your other than conscious mind direct access to the experience of the Paraliminal.

Maybe Sandy can add a few good tips.

Hoping you succeed,
Grant
