Most Qigong movements are quite slow. What is the most beneficial rythm when doing the bounce before starting SFQ?

Thanks!

Hi,
It can vary. Bouncing, is to get the qi moving. You also breath out, through your mouth. This as a releasing and cleansing(you can, really empty the stagnant air out of your lungs too, completely exhaling), a letting go/shaking off, of where you come from. You are moving your focus and intention towards a session. Each day is different, regarding your physical state, and can be different in how you express bouncing. It should be flexible, and not practiced as one preset way being more beneficial than another. I probably, bounce differently on a Minnesota winter morning too, so it may also relate to the setting. I might need to generate some serious heaT! -gallen

Aloha avatarjf,

You'll find Chunyi having his weight loss and cancer focus classes spending 5-20 minutes bouncing before starting their exercises or meditations. There are a lot of benefits to the cells as well as the energy in the body happening with this.

You'll see more and more groups and systems promoting this in the future, and it will probably become as mainstreamed as abdominal/belly breathing, and bottled water in pop machines.

Much Love, Shawn

Thanks so much for your contributions! Cancer and weight just "happen" to be 2 of the issues in my life that I am handling. I so look forward to the October retreat!

Blessings,
Jenny

What can I do now that I've had hip replacements? I don't think I'm allowed to bounce. Is there an alternative movement?

Much Qi,
Diana

Hi Diana,
Welcome back. I guess you have to talk about this with your doctor. If you can't bounce, I would think it is only the case, as you recover. I would be suprized if you were banned from bouncing for life!
Maybe you could substitute walking in place, if bouncing is out for awhile. Walking has an association with qigong. It can warm you up, and it has a rythmn that can effect heart rate and breathing. You can walk in place faster to produce warmth, or slower , and also can slow down heart rate and breathing. You can also really relax while doing it.

Shawn,,, interesting what you say about the significance in bouncing, and how that may show up more. It is utilized in martial qigong too, both for health, and as a basic expression, of a type of power. I focused more on it yesterday, after I read your post, and did it a bit longer. It felt good, purposeful, and really generated some warmth. Another one of those qigong exercises, that probably looks a bit odd to the outsider! -gallen

Diana,
I feel I have made a mistake, with the suggestion of walking in place. You don't need another exercise to replace bouncing.
I would honor, the purity and effectiveness, of what you have to work with , within SFQ.
The sooner you are within that practice, and inner focus, the sooner you can heal, and create what you need to move this forwards.
Just stand, and start your exercise. Or perhaps, move up and down , very gently, to start trying the movement without stressing anything. It is within your exercise, that you will fully recover. There is no limitation, if you simply start moving it in the right direction, with what you 'can' do, which is plenty.
There, ,,,now I can get back to 'my' exercise, without this post it note on my fore brain!
love,
gallen

Aloha Funny-Looking, Bouncing One,

You’ll find bouncing wonderful for the lymphatic system –although I still enjoy skin brushing, being the tactile/kinesthetic type I am.

It's not something we want to build up a sweat with. That wouldn't give the same effect energetically on the body, the fat cells, or lymph. Chunyi may have a class speed up the bouncing for just a little bit at the end of the "bouncing time", and then gradually slow it down to what one thinks is a stop.

Hey, pretty soon you'll be able to practice outside without the mosquito audience!

Mayflower: Feels like the surgery went well. I’m glad.

Much Love,

Shawn

Hi Shawn,
I did a bit longer meditation yesterday, and it seems, that some of the good side effects included a awareness of what I said, for instance, that wasn't quite right! I tried to exercise this morning, and it became distracting , to the point of stopping mid moving of yin and yang, to posting in the forum!! As I was settling into the exercises, it became so apparent, that everything one needs is there, bouncing or not, to move forward. There are no limitations, just some work to do, and if you start doing the work, any perception of limitation, leaves.

Thank you for the finer/healing points on bouncing. Always more to learn..
Did you mean funnylooking, 'and' bouncing?, or funnylooking while bouncing... :-)

Aloha Gallen,

Both.

Thanks for readdressing the importance and impact of simply doing the level I work.

I keep going back to the analogy of a friend of mine and gifted martial arts who always said that in quality martial systems -it's all there in the first belt.

Chunyi says the same thing with SFQ. I have friends that have been doing the work for a while and 7 years down the road, turned to me and said "Wow, I just got what he's been saying for all these years about _____ in level one. That is incredible!"

Much Love,

Shawn
