Dear Forum Members, I have been practicing spring forest qigong level I and 2 for about one year. I find that after doing active exercises when I am doing sitting meditations that my head and neck begin to jerk rapidly back and forth and my left hand begins to shake for several seconds. It stops and begins again repeatedly as I do this meditation. I have been wondering if others have had this experience because I am trying to understand whether this is chi being released or if I am having seizures. I am fully conscious during this experience and do not have a history of seizures( though my brother did have seizures as a child) However, I have become concerned enough about this activity to have it interfere with the peacefulness of my practice. When I read about some of the unusual body experiences that Master Lin experienced and wrote about in his book I felt reassured that maybe this is the movement of chi. I have meditated for years and feel so many benefits that I am reluctant to give it up and equally reluctant to have this checked out medically . I would be grateful if anyone can shed any light on this experience. Thank-you

Hi Rosa

I've had very similar experiences over time, some even a little more radical than what you've described. and have been practicing SFQ for 3 years.

They don't happen to me much these days and my Qi feels much more like a river flowing without too many obstructions in its path. When I did get the movements, I observed and felt them and believed that it was the qi doing its work and ridding me of energy blockages.

I don't suffer from seizures and wouldn't imagine from your explanation that you are either.

I say stay with it, trust it and know that your qi is working for you.

Aloha Rosa,

Well, I won't jump in there with a judgment on whether your experience was a seizure or not.

However, you're not alone with having a body part may jerk or shake, etc. during a mediation or exercise. Chunyi has just said to thank it and allow the Qi to work though and heal the channels.

Chunyi mentions that when Qi works its way through channels that have been close for some time, or those of a more physical/structural nature, there can be various physical sensations - or not.

For example: one of the participants from this Forum shared about feeling "pushed" in the back during one of the mediations at the 2005 6-day retreat. After that, she found her spine and posture to be straightened out.

Much Love, Shawn

Dear Jetay and Shawn, Thank-you very much for your thoughtful replies. I have been following this forum for a while and am very impressed by the generosity and kindness of the people responding. Now I have my own experience of this and you to thank.. While I know you can't tell me for sure if I'm having seizures , I felt reassured that you know of these unusual body experiences. Meditating yesterday I tried your suggestion of being thankful for the experience with the thought that Qi was moving where it needed to go and I felt better about it. Wishing you well.
Love, Rosa
