I was able to attend 3 Spring Forest classes while spending the winter in Texas. How do other forms of Qigong compare with learning SFQ? Is SFQ easier to learn?

My question comes from the fact that buying Chunyi Lin's 4 levels seems very expensive compared to other programs available on the web. I just have his book Born A Healer and find that enough for me to practice. Could I learn more with the full course? Do some people stay just with the learning found in the book, Born a Healer, by Chunyi Lin.

I am a newbie to Spring Forest Qigong, however I have been practicing a number of other systems of Qigong and Tai Chi Chuan since 1973 and began an intensive and regular practice in 1981. I will say more in a different thread about my energy practice history.

But for what it's worth from someone who just received Levels 1 & 2 and have been working with the program for less than a week (and also have and read the book, BORN A HEALER months ago), there is a huge benefit from the entire multi-media (video, audio, text, and phone coaching available--which I have already utilzed and benefited from once and plan to use more) course.

I have learned some great Qigong from some wonderful teachers. And I do have a related question that I will also post in a separate thread, regarding continuing to utilize a few helpful tools from other teachers.

But with only a few sessions practiced, and as someone who has learned and even taught other forms of Qigong, this system in excellent...for me.

When I was a chaplain in the US Air Force, a fitness instructor once asked a fitness class I was in, "What is the best system of exercise?"
Her answer? "The one that you will do!"

This is very similar to advice that Chunyi Lin gives in the course: there are many outstanding Qigong systems. But it is important to take one and follow it for true progress and healing.

I have found that for me to continue to practice regularly, I need a teacher and a community to help support my practice, my learning and my growth and to experience helping others in that community to grow.

My last Qigong teacher is a wonderful teacher and I learned a lot from him. However, he ONLY gave private lessons, which meant it was very hard to also have a community. In addition, I had to drive about 2 hours for every lesson each way and it cost me a lot...3 lessons were as much as I just paid for the deluxe SFQ course.

In 4 hours, I can practice a lot of SFQ. Also, the multi-media approach of video, audio, text and phone coaching for me as someone who has ADD, works very well.

In other words, this is one that I will do and is easy for me to do.

My last teacher has a remarkably similar philosophy and approach to Qigong that Li Sifu (ChunYi Lin) has. But there are some subtle differences that also attracts me more to Chunyi Lin's approach.

The book has some great stuff in it, but you get a lot more in the course and I tell you as someone who has paid a lot to learn Qigong (and has made some great progress that also allows me to learn SFQ better. I have opened some channels), that it is dirt cheap compared to what one can pay to learn the same amount of material from a class or teacher privately.

And there are opportunies to learn more from Chunyi Lin (and/or his senior students) after we advance with the Deluxe Course: workshops, phone coaching, private lessons, seminars etc.

Bottom line: I can only speak for me. As of now, I know this a Qigong I will do and am doing. The multi-media approach gives you a lot of materials using different modalities of learning (a proven technique in education since people learn differently). It is well worth the money and there is a lot to learn there.

The book has some great stuff and if that is all you need/want and you learn well from a book, then that's all you need. For me, I need and want more and the course gives me that. I may need more than that some day once I have somewhat mastered the material in the course. At that point, I will be willing to take a plane and pay a lot more money to advance further. For now, I have found my teacher and plan to stick with this.

Hope that helps.

Thank you very much Shakurav,
That is a wonderful answer to my question about the ease of learning this system. I have come to the same conclusion that SFQ is the method to begin learning more about and not mixing it with other DVD programs that make Qigong more complicated than it needs to be. I'm glad I asked this question.
