Feel the feeling, the texture, color, however, Paul tells you not to lable it! How can you feel texture, color, size, etc., if you can't call it anything. And how can you feel a feeling if you can't lable it to know what kind of feeling you're feeling? [This message has been edited by ikonn (edited March 24, 2006).]

The way I understand it, when Paul says not to label what you feel, he's saying not to judge it or attempt to classify it, especially not in terms of "good" and "bad" feelings. Simply notice the feeling as a feeling and fully experience it in all its texture in the present. In this way, we learn to accept whatever we feel for what it is, without any judgment or "labels," and that is the first step to living in the now, the goal of the living with full awareness.

What I am saying is -- there is nothing. There is nothingness. There is no feeling or anything to feel when Paul asks, notice how your feeling now, I notice nothing...no pain...no anger...no sadness...no joy...there is only nothing! Am I realaxed? Yes! -- Am I feeling anything? NO! I am in total Peace! So how do you notice anything when there is nothing to notice? That is what I am saying about feeling the feeling.

Wow, ikonn! I think many would envy your state of feeling nothing ... it's a state of complete emptiness which is the goal of meditation. I suppose the state you're experiencing is the ultimate goal of the feelings exercise, and it takes most people a long time to achieve that state. I would say, rejoice! You're already "there"! Just enjoy the feeling of nothingness and be totally in that feeling in the now.

Well, I guess I am then! However, I got there not by doing courses like Learning Strategies teach -- but by much prayer and fellowshiping with the Lord Jesus...of whom most courses including the abundance of life course calls the ultimate higher power.

ikonn, Yes, I realized that the core philosophies in AFL (as well as all the other abundance courses) are essentially what all good faiths have been proclaiming throughout all time. The ideas are timeless and available to all, and one way or another, everyone eventually gets a chance to hear them. Kudos to the modern marketing whizzes who entrance the willing public by spinning these ideas into "secrets." Perhaps the universe knows that's the only way some will get the message.

Ikonn... to say you are feeling peace is labeling that experience. To do the feeling exercise you must avoid labeling it. I've already explained a way around the labelling problem a couple of times on the forum. However here it is again. Ask yourself. If this feeling had a colour what colour would it be? If this feeling made a sound what would it sound like? If this feeling had a texture what would it feel like to touch? If this feeling had a taste what would it taste like. If this feeling had a size what sized container would it fit. At no time do you use expressions like total peace... get in touch with the feeling of total peace without the label. Way different experience Alex

if this feeling had a color what color? white, blue, rainbow...this is still labeling. if this feeling had texture what would it feel like? rough, smooth, wet...that is still labeling. I understand what you're saying Alex, however, if you put any word to the feeling felt or thought...it is still labeling. The feeling I feel is total feeling, pure energy then. And to state this to someonelse is setting a label to it!

I believe the experience Alex is asking you to look for is one of description as opposed to judging it good or bad, negative or possitive. Feel the feeling in its fullness by discribing it without the judgement. That's all. By your last post you are not feeling nothing, you are feeling pure energy. Not everyone recognizes emotion as energy without judgement. That is pretty much the purpose of the exercise is to recognize the energy that exists within us in all emotion. The judgement of that energy is the allowing or disallowing of the flow of energy. If you appreciate it, you have reclaimed the power available in emotion judged to be negative, bad or "wanting to get rid of it." [This message has been edited by SoulSource (edited April 05, 2006).]

The feeling doesn't have a colour and the answer isn't as definitive as call the the feeling peace. When you go through and seek what colour the feeling would have, the sound it could make, the texture it could have if you could touch it. You move away from labeling. How is identifying a feeling as; blue, bluish with a pinkish tinge, smooth as silk, with a hum like a reassuring fan that puts a child to sleep at night, that fits into a container the size of a 44 gallon drum giving it a label? What you are doing is describing something that someone else has a better chance of imagining the experience of than the word "peace". For yourself you are looking to go beyond the single word phrases, describe it so you can experience it. Because until you can describe the feeling you cannot really experience the energy and the power in the feeling.
Alex
