I was recently diagnosed with Adult Attention Deficit disorder.. Im on a script of Adderall now.. the effect on my mind is.. unbelievable..... Im 2-5 times more productive now... Im interested in combining a mixture of herbal+med+ Learning Strategies systems to yield the best possible results.. has anyone had any luck with this? IE Ginkobiloba, Adderall, Ginseng, ritilian, dexadrine, grapeseed extract etc.? And if so what combinations are working best for production?

My main enemy is lethargy.. im a great starter-of-projects.. but a terrible finisher of them.

Ive been trying to use Learning Strategies Ideal Mindset for a while now, with limited success... with the addition of Adderall I now seem to have the key to reaching my goals with the combination of these two.

Which leads me to believe other additives might help even more (ginseng/ginko etc.)

Am I totally off base here? or does anyone else use a bit of a drug cocktail + LS systems to maximize mental performance?

Hi Mazrim

Definitely take a B-vitamin complex, vitamin B12 particularly, you can also try Lecithin(1 gram or more per day) which converts to Choline in the body or brain, which is a precursor of the Acetylcholine neurotransmitter, it helps with mental alertness and memory. Acetylcholine is one of the main things believed to be involved with Alzheimers, but not only, obviously, and can help improve anybody's state of mind. Ginseng and Ginkgo Biloba are excellent choices. One research report said proof readers took Ginseng and could sustain much longer periods of concentration than those who did not.

What does coffee do for you? I've read quite a bit on coffee and it helped for memory tasks in older adults in one lot of research, apparently it's okay if you do not exceed 3-4 cups per day. There are many positive things about coffee which some people shrug off.

You might also want to try "Kali Phos", it's a biochemic tissue salt, homeopathic. It helps with fatigue and is used to treat students who suffer burnout after long periods of study.

A supplement of Amino-Acids will also help as they are the precursors for neurotransmitters in the brain.

I hope this helps, but try them at your own risk as I do not know the possible problems with ADD. I'm merely talking about what has helped my abilities and that I've read that helps state of mind.

Persevere with finding resources and solutions for your own benefit, you'll reap rewards outside of the problem area too.
Good Luck, Go Well.

Hi again Mazrim

From the book "Your Miracle Brain" by Jean Carper: "Researchers...say, the brains of ADD sufferers are running low on essential fatty acids because they have a genetic inability to convert short-chain fatty acids in the diet to long-chain fatty acids that the brain needs to function properly"..."Psychological stress and a zinc deficiency also block enzyme action"...this enzyme action... "is required to turn on the building blocks that supply essential fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6, to neurons."

"Bottom Line: It's worth trying omega-3 supplements to relieve attention deficient disorder...if it doesn't cure the problem, it's likely to improve brain functioning in general.Researchers often give omega-3 supplements along with the drug Ritalin..."

I personally take 1.2 grams of Omega-3 fatty acids daily. I'm sure it could help anybody's brain to function better. From the same book, I quote, "Failure to eat enough omega-3 fat is scientifically linked to an array of modern mental disorders and problems: depression, poor memory, low intelligence, learning disabilities, dyslexia, attention deficit disorder, schizophrenia, 'senility', Alzheimer's disease, degenerative neurological diseases, multiple sclerosis, alcoholism, poor vision, irritability, hostility, inattention, lack of concentration, aggression..."

Hope this helps you Mazrim. Best Wishes for you.

Chunyi Lin says that many people with ADD have benefited from the practice of Spring Forest Qigong. As a matter of fact, I believe he is doing a study now for a clinic on the effects of Qigong on ADD.
