Music a great tool for changing mood... speeding up or slowing down of thinking. If you are trying to quieten the mind while meditating use a chant or mantra. Whenever you find yourself distracted by thoughts just gently remind yourself you'll think about that later but for now you are doing this.

Ultimately if you are concerned about one particular topic that keeps recurring and you want it to stop. An unusual technique that of going right into it... analysing it in full detail just keep going until you've found the true reason why you keep thinking about it and at a short point it becomes clear. When it becomes clear... you understand it then it no longer will obsess you. I often meditate on topics using this method and myself letting go . The tapes from the Sedona course help you go into it better with your feeling and heart and release that way. Since you probably don't have the Sedona tapes. I suggest rather than trying to turn it off... really go into it write about it, talk outloud to yourself about it, notice how you feel about it, Go as far as you can with it to find out what it really is.

Hi

Try replacing an obsessive thought with another thought. Think of something that you would really like to think of over an over again, and put it in place of the thought you find uncomfortable to repeat. What also works is praying, chanting and affirming. Repeat a word(s) you would like to hear, I use "release...real ease...real easy" and others.

I also think Alex has a good idea of facing the problem, and probing to get to the bottom of the issue. Paul Scheele says in The Natural Brilliance book that parts of ourselves we suppress or try to ignore may turn hostile against in order to be known, I was wondering if this can be related to an obsessional thought fighting for it's expression in our lives-an issue unresolved from the past-or part of ourselves suppressed.

I find that when I take an anti-depressant, issues surface, and become obsessional-until I've resolved them. Some still remain unresolved, hence my use of thought replacement, because some remain very complex issues, or unfathomable issues. Notice how it is likely for an anti-depressant(depress is similar to suppress) to bring to the surface issues that have been buried.

Another thing I do is write down a worst case scenario, eg. what's the worst that can happen, and then release it.

Another thing you can do is write "Morning pages", when you get up in the morning, or if not then at night. You just write whatever is on your mind, as many pages as you like. If you can't write anything, write that down too, until the floodgates open, and you can write easily. This is a way of letting go unresolved stuff and setting your creative part free that you may be suppressing.

Address as many as possible, fears you may have, with the Anxiety-Free Paraliminal. Repeat the words release...notice...respond...witness if you have done the Natural Brilliance Personal Learning Course.

All the best,
Grant

Try "Thought Field Therapy" It involves tapping on various energy centers ofr the body. I think it also breaks up patterns sort of like NLP. Also observe your thoughts and reactions to these thoughts. By doing this you begin to break up the strategy or "pattern"
