Hi everyone...I've spent the whole day reviewing (and learning) from your posts. You guys are amazing!!! I found the site http://www.hypnotictapes.com that offers full array of self help tapes that really appealed to me. The company uses a 4 step program that incorporates hypnosis, subliminal, and sleep learning that will activate the cue that was implanted during hypnosis. So in conjunction, this has a maximum effect. What do you guys think? Will it work? Is the man trustworthy? Is it dangerous to use subliminal? Moreover, the scripts uses "You" instead of "I" ...I wonder if that will limit the effect. How do you think it compares to Learning Strategies? Again, thanks for the education tonight!

Starliu, and anyone else who's considering subliminal and sleep learning programs, I highly recommend you check out the book "Your Memory: How It Works & How to Improve It" by Kenneth L. Higbee, Phd. It's one of the best books on memory I've read. It's more academic and scientific than other memory books -- scholarly, well researched, extensive references. Anyway, he's got specific chapters on subliminals and sleep learning and I think you may want to check out his thoughts on the subjects before spending a lot of money of this stuff.

Thanks!

I tried the wendi.com cd daily for about two weeks and got minimal results, I don't think they're very effective, but I did finally find a product I highly recommend that really works called " Your Final Breakthrough" developed by Arnd Stein. You can check it out a www.nightingale.com .Just type in Stein in the search option.I bought the Overcome Anxiety set and have been using it for about a week now and have seen my anxiety symptoms nearly cut in half, and thats just after a week. They say to use the program for an entire month, so I'll let you guys know the full effect after a month. I'm sure It will be very positive.

Publius, I haven't had a chance to check out the book you recommended, but I'm wondering if you could give us a synopsis of his theories? Is he basically saying subliminal and sleep learning is worthless? As of yet, I haven't had any real sucess with subliminals, but I have had success with sleep learning - so I was just curious what his thoughts were. Thanks for your help.

Rachel -- Basically, Higbee cites specific controlled scientific studies that show sleep learning doesn't work. The studies show that the amount of retention differs depending on how you define "sleep." In light sleep/just nodding off stages, there is some recall of audio-playback material, but as a person descends deeper and deeper into full sleep, there is virtually no recall or retention of material.

As for subliminals, Higbee starts by examining what is always referred to as the original, successful application of subliminals (even PRWMS). He states that the original movie theater "eat popcorn, drink coke" experiment has never ever been repeated successfully. By this he means that no similar test under controlled circumstances has been able to show a quantifiable increase in the elicited behavior. (BTW, other posters have referred to websites that call into question not only the validity of the actual movie-theater experiment but whether they even happened at all). Higbee then briefly reviews other experiments on the efficacy of subliminals, all of which show no correlation between the contents of the tape and outward behaviors or attitudes.

On the similar topic, I recall a post that said the "silent subliminal" technology developed by Lowery Associates of Norcross GA (and used in the upper levels of the Centerpointe Holosync program) is the "only subliminal proven to work." I've seen this same claim on the Centerpointe website, but I've never seen the "proof." (BTW, I am a dedicated Holosync user. I believe Holosync is effective, but even Bill Harris downplays the importance of the subliminals in the program).

I know subliminals are really popular on this board and folks have strong views on this, so other thoughts in the spirit of an open discussion are welcome.
regards,
Publius
