I cannot speak about Focusing because I have no experience with it.

I can say that Open Focus is basically a kind of focusing that contains components of strict, focused attention and spacey, peripheral, day-dreamiy attention.

The result is a both/and sort of attention which does not overly emphasize either direction but uses both.

It is a rather pleasant state of mind and perhaps would be of great use to someone with the will to develop it sufficiently. People who practice the martial arts competently sometimes describe the quality of their attention in ways that lead me to think they are in open focus.

The name is pretty descriptive. Open and focused simultaneously.
