has anyone ever had an experience with either meditation, hypnosis, hallucinogens, etc where you came upon a realization that "nothing's real"? it sounds wierd, but i ate hallucinogenic mushrooms once (i really dont do a lot of drugs) and kept on repeating this to myself. About a year later, a friend of mine told me he noticed that same thing. i didnt think much of it, until a girl i met also told me she had a similar realization. do we really see the world as it truly is?

Our senses are evolved for survival, not for perception of reality.

As to your experience, the brain has naturally occuring ontology mechanisms, so that we can sort out the real from the unreal. Drugs interfear with these mechanisms in different ways.

Do we see the world as it truly is? Yes - every one of us billions upon billions of individual people (life forms, conscious beings, etc) see the world as we each understand it to truly be.

We go along through life sometimes thinking that maybe the religeons are right, that there is one Truth after all and we're just not "getting" it. Then one day we become cognizant of the fact that each of us have our own perceptions of life based upon whatever we are understanding/experiencing only at that precise moment in time, because our perceptions are always in a state of flux.
So then one day, after we encompass total enlightenment, we come to the salient realization that we could, in all likelihood, be wrong.

I have come to "know" that nothing is real - just as nothing is unreal. It all just is. And we all go along as best we can, growing and expanding our base knowledge as we travel along (okay, most of us) trippng and falling over our own feet for the most part, forever relearning how to just get out of our own way. Because human perceptions are limited no matter how you choose to look at it - and there is more to this world/reality/universe/space-time continuum than the most enlightened/tripped out/guru/guy next door could ever possibly imagine, even if he did have conscious awareness of eternity and the possibility of immortal souls, and the reality of reality.

Wow - and this is only Tuesday.

The social connections created by these posts are real enough, aren't they?

It's really an odd and paradoxical thing ... that when you find out that all this stuff is an illusion you get really eager to tell the other illusions, "Hey! It's an an illusion! Nothing is real!"

If, experientially, you really believe that nothing is real ... you wouldn't bother. Or maybe you would? Chopping wood, carrying water ...

The nothing is real and nothing is unreal thing is a bit trickier ...

I think the idea that we react to our maps and transforms of reality rather than reality itself (to varying extents) is pretty accurate.

One book that may be of interest to you is, "Why God won't go away : brain science and the biology of belief" by Andrew Newberg, Eugene d'Aquili, and Vince Rause. It explains, in very non-technical terms, the neuroscience behind religious experiences.

I really liked your post Ann. The above really speaks to me in my battle with my lot.

The following comes to mind:

- shoulding
- who I am
- adapting

As a child, who is taught not to feel what is felt, not to think what is thought, to be a creation of external forces, and to learn that the only acceptable form of behaviour is a pretense, or a behaviour that one should do. I think I have somewhat lost myself, and that I am not being who I really am. Besides, my perception is my perception and if that is untrue then everything is a delusion, a screen put on consciousness, to avoid being a self-directed, self-managed learner. It is one thing being told that my perception is wrong, but to be told that my perception is not my perception is a fatal error. To not be able to determine my perception due to lack of practice, and experience at expressing myself openly in front of other people, is more than highly uncomfortable. It is an annihilation of life. If the only truth there is, is untruth, then delusion is sure to follow, a self-effacing unborn soul is the likely outcome.

A few things are going to be strategies for me:

- believing in my perception as my perception
- expressing my perception
- recovering from lifes whacks using the Resiliency course
- adapting to life not giving up myself

On the otherhand maybe my perception is to be seriously questioned, and doubted, maybe I'm just lying putting this all here.

Ann, thanks for your light in the dark.

Kind Regards
Grant

Tonight is synchronicity night. Several events took place tonight, that confirm a higher being is ensuring that I learn to trust my perception. I hardly ever think about trusting my own perception but tonight, events took place one after the other with the main thrust of trusting my own perception.

The events:

1) I got strong thoughts of a danger with dog-poisoning, which I thought intuitively had to do with my dog
2) I thought I heard strange thumping in the neighbour's front garden.
3) I read Ann's post tonight, the main idea I got from it was the need to trust my own perception, that was before I was told by my mom that
4) Our neighbours had intruders.
5) The dog next door was seriously harmed.

How's that for serious synchronicity?

Kind Regards
Grant

G'morning there, Grant! ISn't it a LOVELY day??

I struggle with some of the very issues you mentioned, and think that perhaps what I have is a certain "trust" that -- perhaps not that 'it' will work out -- but that 'I' will see my way through it, over it, around it, or avoid it, or realize that it doesn't exist and come to know the reason for said issues and actions.

That's not too much to ask now is it?!

"To not be able to determine my perception due to lack of practice" -- I'm taking this line with me today when I head out. I want to work on it.
"If the only truth there is, is untruth, then delusion is sure to follow." I see that I am going to be thinking about these today. [more later]

Oh, by the way, your last entry made me laugh! I see you waving a sword over your head as you lead the pack to capture the bad guys! You're laughing in a thouroughly wicked way, you have your hair tied back or a kerchief on or something (don't ask me why!) and you are running through the grass in front of a building waving this silver sword in huge circles over your head - leading the charge! You are having the time of your life!!
Nice picture, really. Lots of energy.

-->CHARGE!<--
