The Ultramind method is also original. It does away with the handholding of the original course. At the time when the Silva Method first appeared people were not ready to hear about ESP using the powers of the mind and that. So it was presented in applicable steps. How to heal headaches, staying awake, memory technique, relaxation techniques.
In fact it was the repetition of "Going to Level" that the earlier portions of the course needed to help people get ready for the possibility that they have ESP ability (nicely renamed to make it more acceptable.) This is because when the training came out in 1966 (Jose started teaching it then), meditation was just begining to hit the western society with the hippie overtones and the fact that alpha brainwaves and the relaxed state of alertness being benfical for learning was not understood. That the relaxed state of alertness (alpha) triggered ESP skills was accidently uncovered, Jose was more focued on accelerating his kids learning. Prove about the connection of Alpha with learning and psychic skills is still being researched in more details now. I know of only one research where they hooked up known psychics to find out what brainwaves they trigger and they did it on TV in 2004.
To keep it to the point that it is a skill humans naturally have Jose downplayed the ESP part. Just prior to his passing he released the Ultramind ESP System. A course he wanted to present a long time ago, he was waiting till the public is reasdy.
The Ultramind course focuses on the ESP part which was taught on the last two days of the course. Since a person interested in developing "ESP" is already open the handholding and preparation of learning dynamic meditation isn't necessary. If you've used Paraliminals, hypnosis, NLP, passive, guided meditations and other self improvment audios where you close your eyes to listen, then you are familar with dynamic meditation.
People who have done the original Silva method may be disappointed because it seems to be a "condensation" of the course. In fact it is an expansion of the last two days when the course was taught over 5 days. I know the Live Silva Method course was condensed and was condensed even further in 2004 they eiliminated and combined much of the practice requiring yout to enter the level less. Some people repeating the new Silva Method classes after having experienced the longer classes are disappointed.
The Ultramind ESP is still the original last 2 days with some addtional focuses on other ESP techniques. So newcomers will be enjoy the course. Those who have done the original Silva Method will be able to appreciate the extra training they can get from the Ultramind ESP home study course when they realise they won't "learn" too much new but can practice what they were originally taught on the last two days, something with I understand is now squashed into the weekend with the other training.
