Hello friends, (I originally posted this on the Abundance for Life forum, but I noticed that perhaps the topic might be more appropriate in this forum.) I was intrigued by Paul's mentioning (in the AFL course) that the birthing experience can traumatize the new-born's neural system, thus imprinting a survival mentaility which serves the individual during his/her first phase of life. And that's why we live in a limitation-mode during phase 1 of our lives. I happened to have a particularly traumatic birth experience. My mother's labor was particularly difficult, and I was stuck in the birth canal for 9 hours, before it was decided that emergency C-section was required. When I was finally delivered, I was blue as the sky, and did not respond. It took several attempts to get me crying and breathing on my own. So, I'm wondering maybe that's partly why I'm stuck in the limitation mindset, as well as other problems in my life, as one person commented, my overly negative views (for which I'm profusely apologetic, but that's just me being me, sorry again!). Could it be that my birthing experience (which in fact was a near-death experience!) imprinted a severely distorted survival/limitation stamp on my neuro-net. If so, how does one heal from it? Does it require working with a professional counselor, or is there a self-help method available? Thanks.

There are some theories that the energy imprint of trauma is electromagnetically stored in meridian system. This energy system is often referred to in accupuncture. The treatment is called Thought field therapy, it works by tapping a sequential "code" to release the stored information/emotional energy. This is a profound treatment for post traumatic stress... www.tftrx.com [This message has been edited by Leonardicus@Earth.now (edited March 06, 2006).] [This message has been edited by Leonardicus@Earth.now (edited March 06, 2006).]

Hi Hartreefoch: Yes, it is quite likely this type of imprinting can occur, and does occur for some people. I have only just recently had the opportunity to work with a Time Line Therapist who did some major clearing work with me on that particular issue. My Mom was in labour for 36 hours, she was very frightened through the whole experience, and the medical care was, by today's standards, very poor. I was one of the first live C-sections performed in Canada where both mother and baby survived. With the prolonged labour I had made several turns in the womb and was finally yanked out with the umbillical cord wrapped a couple of times around my neck. I was very weak, and because I had pretty much stopped moving, she also thought, as did the doc's, that I was dead, and they fully expected to pull a dead child from the womb. As a result of this rough birth experience, most of my life I had operated from a fear base, limiting social contact as much as possible, and to some extent, sabotaging success to keep that configuration in play. Over the last several years I've searched for help and received much of it through hypnosis and related modalities, and the type of stuff LSC offers. Some of the work can be facilitated with the New History Generator paraliminal, and once you've done the Time Line Therapy, using it would be a good way, IMHO, of reinforcing the changes made in the Therapy. TLT is a gentle, very effective technique, in the hands of a good practitioner, for moving out of birth trauma, as well as other areas of the life where trauma has imprinted and held you in a stuck place. I am looking forward, as a Hypnotist myself, to adding it to my repetoire of tools very soon. Cheers! Unis

I think Stanislov Grof et al do some rebirthing stuff with holotropic breathing. http://www.holotropic.com/ In my experience, there are so many things that can have an influence on these kinds of issues. In my experience, the best ones have come from life itself and have not been planned. I think the intention makes you ready, and you spend a long time preparing.... but the real stuff happens as an accident. Some things can help make you "accident prone" as the saying goes. What may strike you as strange is that your birth experience may have nothing to do, in all actuality, with the problems you describe. This stuff is pretty weird as far as that goes, I think. When you make progress and find out what it was, you feel like you knew it all along. I wonder, though, did you? Or is hindsight twenty-twenty? Good luck with your endeavor. May you find the freedom you seek.

I winder if anyone out there is still doing rebirthing breathwork...it was popular in the eightees. The thing that came to mind is EMDR, which is especialy useful for neutralising trauma and PTSD. One of the great things about it, is it works on pre-verbal experiences. I know a therapist who specialises in working with traumatised children, and she uses it- even with very young children. Make sure you get a qualified, certtified practitioner- this method is only taught to Masters level and above counseling psych and social workers, which in this case is a good thing. While similar, it is not the same as the Emotional Freedom Technique...that is good stuff for alot of things, but for this, I strongly suggest you find a pro who specialises in trauma. Another thought- you were born, and have continued to live to this time. That is a successful birth, the beginning of a wonderful chain of moments, a string of successive succeses that have continued building on the first. What a beautiful thing to celebrate! You made it then, and have made it this far! vitaman

Hi Hartree, A couple of days ago I dealed with my birth "trauma" with the Reflection process in the Boudless renewal course. I did not plan to do that, it just came. I did not dwell on it. I had entirely other questions in mind, AND also the question of how can I find passion in my life. (See my post in the Paraliminal forum under the topic Passion in life). That's what I suggest to you also. Don't dwell on your birth experience, instead concentrate on what you want, whatever it is. Boundless renewal course may well be useful to you, if you have not done it already. I also like what Baba said, there may be other things involved, not only the birth experience. I found out there is stuff from my "cultural heritance" or memes, or whatever you wish to call them. Those things may be far more important than the birth experience. And the beauty is to leave them as they are, they will stay away when not needed and will come to help you at the right time. I think that also appleis to your birth experience. These maybe mixed thoughts are my 2 cm
