Hi ExAnima;

I did something very similiar to this process many years ago. Moved to an island and didn't wear shoes for two years ( I thought was the best part). Didn't know anyone and rarely phoned home. Didn't follow the news (and still don't).

The stress melted away, my health returned. I did find my purpose in life without really trying. But this only a beginning. Once you know your purpose deep in your bones there are levels to fulfilling the purpose.

You can do it with alot of effort or you can be smart and use tools to make it more effective. You refine things as you go. You expand your circle. There is no end to your own Self Mastery.

I didn't have tears of joy but a good chuckle at myself. Although I did have this deep reverence at having the Universe open up for me and of giving Thanks for such a gift.

It was and still is a good ride.

I like the sound of what you say. I rarely follow the news but am often criticised for that. The usual respone I receive is "you need to know what is happening in the world, don't you care etc etc" which I find frustrating at times.

What "tools" are you referring to in your post to make it more effective?

Regards
Stevie

Hi thanks for the speedy reply, all i could think was wow 2 years without shoes, your comments have made me really want to undergo this process now, i am doing something similiar to what you did at the moment, in that have moved away from home, dont have a tv, hardly know anyone and your right the stress is melting away but at the same time theres an intense feeling of wanting to know what its all about, not just the purpose of my life but an answer to questions like, Who Am I? and whats the meaning of life?, intuitively i feel everything has been leading me to this point and that following this process will provide me with not just an answer, but change how i view everything forever, thanks for your comments they really helped and inspired!!!!!!!!

When I first ended up on the island I read a story about a fellow, back in the eighteen hundreds, that was ship wrecked in the Cook Islands.

In the time he was there, he gained three wives and alot of weight eating coconuts and fish.

Three years later he was "Rescued" and taken home to England. In six months he lost all his weight, his health suffered badly from daily stress and pollution. The family bickering drove him nearly insane combined with the daily negative news.

He boarded another ship and went back to the Cook Islands, regaining his health and three wives. He penned several books and lived into his eigthies. His qoute that inspired me was " There is something about living on a sleepy atoll
where today lasts forever and tomorrow never comes".

As far as tools go, in Spring Forest Qigong Master Lin talks about "Going into the emptiness" during meditation.
I had this taught to me another way,but Master Lin's is easier and better.

Following this method of POYL is sort of like "Living in the Emptiness" instead of using your mind to do it. I think that doing both at the same time magnifies the results. Monks do it and many others.

The question's you have regarding "who am I, why am I here, etc." can all be answered by going into the emptiness.

The distractions of everyday life prevent you from doing this until you take a time out and develope this ability. Once you have it, you will always have it.

You work at being calm, relaxed, dissolve yourself, and then you find the Emptiness. Keep a smile on your face.
The treasure is there.
