Hello Photoreaders, I just bought the photoreading course a week ago and i was wondering is it possible to just photoread math books without acctivation and gain results or do you have to rapid read the text etc? I am 16 male, living in australia and iam failing mathematics at the moment. Thanks,

Hello, I have found that photoreading books helps in math! I sometimes rapid read but usually i just photoreading math books. If you have more questions email me.

I remember back in grade 12 ( many moons ago!) about an incident involving math. I was struggling ... but I put my mind to it that I was going to ace the mid term exam. I stayed up late that night going over review questions, studing the formulas, doing math problems ... when all was said and done I had about 2 hours to sleep before getting up to take the exam. During the exam ... I pointed out a problem with one of the questions in that it could not be done ... teacher said ... thanks, I'll add another 10% to your mark ... I was thinking great, I could use the help!!! When I receive my mid term paper back, I was amazed to find I had scored a 110% ... wow! My point is, you have the ability in you to succeed at anything you put your mind too!! Belief is strong medicine to be respected!!! As for your question ... PR'ing math books can only do good ... but pencil, paper and a belief in yourself can go a long way to achieving your grade you desire!! Humbily Michael Saikali

What if you want to PhotoRead a maths textbook in the full sense, using the various activation techniques, because you need to be able to recall equations and the like, and yet at the same time would like to try applying Direct Learning to the book to build up your intuitive maths skills? As I understand it, if you want to use a text for direct learning, you aren't supposed to activate it. Is it possible to do both with the same book?

Did I post the same reply twice? It took me back to this message thread, but I didn't see my post there... and so I posted it again, and nothing again! Afterwards I noticed on the forum that the number of posts for this thread had apparently increased by 2. :P I still can't see them...hehe. I'll check back again tomorrow to see if those messages (and this one) have appeared. Sorry; I realise this is all irrelevant, but I have noticed lots of other double posts by other people, and was wondering if this was the reason?

Jmc98, If you wish to use Direct Learning ... theres nothing that say you can't ... to build math skills intuitively. But if it's comprehension you're after ... then manual activation may be the preferred choice. Can you do both? I'd do Direct learning first ... wait a bit, then give manual activation a go. PhotoReading texts in mathematics and related subjects can help, especially with priming the mind for that kind of thinking. The problem that arises, at least as far as I see in many American texts in mathematics, is that there is a brief proof given, maybe a derivation, and then a number of exercises. What you would be looking for in a mathematics text that you were going to use for Direct Learning, I think, is one which goes into great depth regarding the structure of the branch of mathematics that you are trying to learn, coupled with a number of worked out examples. A decent author in this regards is Courant. My personal opinion regarding mathematics and Direct Learning is that some of the basic hooks for mathematical skills can be absorbed through Direct Learning and PhotoReading, but there is still required an investment of time and energy in actual problem solving in order to attain mastery. Mathematics is not memorization of equations and facts - it is a restructuring of the problem solving approach, and perfectly brilliant minds have devoted years to working problems that, at first blush, appeared trivial. I have found that with computer programming books as well. Some use aweful standards and don't explain the underlying reasoning behind some of the syntax. Which is to say, when reading this type of technical material make sure you choose well written books. The best would be to read many books on the subject. Some books are excellent at explaining the mindsets behind problem solving. Those are the best because a person can benefit from the authors experience when employing direct learning.
