I noticed if I dont drink water when I am photoreading, I get really thirsty. Could it be that photoreading requires the brain to activate more parts at one time and thus increasing the need for oxygen? It would be interesting to see how many people have experienced this before!

You know, it's really interesting that you say that because I've been wondering why Paul Scheele always says to get a glass of water during the PR home study course. I think he does mention why the first time he says it. It's got something to do with helping to put you in the ideal state.

Try including Ginko Biloba herbal supplement in your daily nutritional requirement. This will also increase oxygen intake for the brain and enhance memory.

Hey Guys,
I JUST EXPERIENCED SPONTANEOUS ACTIVATIONFOR THE FIRST TIME! :D I didn't mean to shout, I was just really excited. I picked up a book for a class and I briefly photoread it in the bookstore while I was waiting in line. A few days later, your question about dehydration appeared. I thought about it for a short time and then went about my business. That evening, I grabbed the book and it "fell open" to the exact answer for your question. To make a long story longer, here is the answer. When there is a drop in the water content in the blood, the salt concentration in the blood increases and you become thirsty. When there are high levels of salt in the blood, our cells release fluids into the bloodstream to compensate, thus raising blood pressure and creating stress. Hope this was helpful.

I have no idea what you were saying Jwhitele. Are you saying those effects happen as you get dehydrated, or when you drink water?

I am going to try saying the same thing in another way. Here goes. As water is lost from our bodies, the concentration of salt in our body then proportionately increases. This then makes the salt concentration higher in the spaces between our cells. When this happens, water then travels from the cell, across the cell membrane, and into the spaces between the cells towards the more highly concentrated salt (the process is called osmosis). If severe enough, this can interfere with the normal function of the cells creating stress on the body and potentially lead to death.

If you didn't understand that, lets try this. Have you ever salted a slug or a plant to kill it? Same principle of osmosis working in both of these situations. The water is drawn from the area of less concentrated salt to the area of more highly concentrated salt. This is the reason that people can't drink large amounts of ocean water. The concentration of salt in the stomach becomes high enough that water is drwn out of the rest of the body tissues causing severe dehydration in the body leading to death.

Hope this further clarified the principles in question. If not, look up osmosis on the web or in a referrance book of some sort.

"...a drop..." as in when the water level in your body decreases. So when you are dehydrated, this process occurs inside your body, triggering an undesirable outcome.

Just a general rule, the more water you drink, the better. Water takes out a lot of the toxins from your body and is needed for many essential functions.

I cant say that you are not fully wrong but the sodium isnt really what gives you that thirsty feeling...it has to do a lot more with the osmoreceptors you have in specific cells in your body. When you are dehydrated your osmoreceptors send a signal to your brain which triggers your thirst. Man, i hate when i act like a professor and try to correct everyone because half the time im wrong hehe.
