I'd like to add that I too found a problem of activating what I've photoreaded books a moment ago. Plus I wear cochlear implant as well - perhap then, would it help a lot to switch the processor box off because I find it difficult to block out any unwanted sound!
I think it will be difficult to concentrate on p'reading with sounds continously being delivered all the time. I tend to find it easier to concentrate with he processor switched. That's just my opinion.. 
So, would it help with the activation if you turn off the processor?
