This question is about speed reading. PhRing is not speed reading. It's a technique & a concept & a process. I like the whole thing; maybe that's why i have experienced success w/ it. But, people like ckerins & others appear to be much more successful. They started PhRing in college & i'm long removed from any academic setting.

I also developed self-confidence & a feeling of empowerment from applying all the skills in the PhRing course. No book of my choice can intimidate me now. Last night, i just went right thru Quantum Teaching. I didn't even bother to PhR it! I just programmed myself for what i wanted & collected lots of info...all pertinent to what i wanted. I'll MM next. Lastly, i'll get into the alpha state of mind & say: Now is there something i've missed that is important to my workshop that i need to know? Yes, it's kind of frightening, no question about it. There's very little left brain stuff to depend on.

I don't blame Martin's skepticism. I was reluctant to buy the product at first. I think the general problem people have is that they misinterpret the capabilities of the PR process. I don't think the advertising is misleading but I think people have a tendency to read more into it than is promised.

Having said that, once you understand what the product has to offer, it is worth the money.

Martin,

You would have six months to test the system for yourself. LS is very easy to work with and they mean it when they say they will refund your money. Even if you watch someone go through the process in front of your eyes, you won't have true validation until you have the course in your hands. The bottom line is what the system can do for you (and that will be entirely dependent upon your flexibility and your willingness to regularly apply the system). There is a lot of testimony on this DF. Either we're real people or we're LS employees taking part in an elaborate scheme to mislead potential buyers. I can only speak for myself, but I have no relationship with anyone at LS at all. As regular people, what have we to gain by mis-stating the value and results of the system? You have nothing to lose by trying it out, except the time you devote to it. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I agree with mgrego! Seeing someone do the system in front of your eyes flawlessly could have adverse effects. Like Paul Scheele says in the book, the best way to approach anything is to put yourself into a state of "begginer's mind" so you can fully develope, integrate the subject matter into yourself with out having to deal with harsh criticism from being in an "expert mind". To reach the level of an accomplished photoreader requires time and patience as well as exploration and repetition. If you see a flawless demonstration and cannot reproduce it, you'll start to get frustrated and hieve the book/course out the nearest egress

A lot of good points have been raised. However, I am going to be the heel here by pointing out, balkanboy, you can order just the book. If you like the book, get the rest. The folks around here will tell you how the book compares to the self-study course.

I'm about to rant on a slightly related topic. But I'll save it for another day.

Digress.

In response to LynnHalmech - I hope I go the spelling correct. I saw the add - ordered just the book and I like the book, but I am not confident that I can read at the speed I want to read and with the retention that I need in my profession.

I am a self-employed network engineer. I have an MCSE in NT 4.0 and Windows 2000, a Masters in IS, and an MBA. All were hard won.

Now I know - you may be asking so what do I want more skills for. Well to be quite honest, none of this means squat as an independent. What I really need is the ability to fly through the Cisco courses. The consulting and marketing books I use were a breeze with photoreading.

So I am asking all of you - how will the $200 course be an improvement over the book?

thanks,

aallen

Where the PhotoReading book explains all 5 steps in full detail, the PhotoReading home study takes you through the steps and teaches you each technique. So, you experience and learn it, verses just reading about it.

I recognize that buying and returning things can be a hassle (esp with Learning Strategies and the sometimes weird Spamish Snail-mail you get with the mailing list).

However PR is definetly worth the risk if you have $200 you can live without for that learning period. Learning Strategies is big on Guarantees and the success of their products because the Guarantee is set for 6 months, but is really for as long as you need to fully experience the product. Simply email them that you need more time, and ususally they'll provide it. It seems LS truly wants you to be sucessful in exploring their product, which is why they provide personal success coaches (Dana Hanson was mine :-)).

Really, I understand that it can be a hassle, and $200 is a lot of money, but doesn't the possible, and guaranteed, return completely outweigh the risk? You could possibly attain an invaluable tool for your life at the sole risk of a little time, and shipping and handling costs ;-).

So, MY skepticism was broken by the possible return greatly outweighing the risk.

This is not meant as a personal attack Balkinboy but you'll probably take it as such. You say you want "proof" that photoreading really works, but you don't seem to even know what photoreading really is. Its not flipping through a book at light speed and instantly being able to recall every detail . . . maybe someday. . . but not yet. Photoreading is about allowing more of your mind to play with written material and enjoying the process. You don't even seem to be a skeptic, its quite obvious you have already passed judgement on PRing and I can't imagine anyone even wanting to waste their time demonstrating the process to such a sour and acrid individual as yourself. As for your "impressive" refutation of poor Margrets attempt at giving you some helpful advice, well you could have ordered the course, listened to the tapes, sent it back and gotten your refund sooner than it took you to write that useless post!

Hey, Balkanboy, very funny, i like your style...heh, i am pretty sarcastic too, but seriously, that was pretty severe... especially to LS-- if you really don't like them so much, quit posting and read normally.. i hear your request, and i have heard your rebuttals... but i have one solution for you, just get the book, try it, if it doesn't work for you, just send it back. i know you have already heard it, but sometimes it is good to hear things more than once or twice...heh. I only bought the book myself, because like you, i didn't want to pay 250$ without a guarantee of the results, but if i can read faster, if there is even a slight possibility, then i will at least try the book by itself with the return policy.

-Melvin

P.S. go ahead and slaughter me (and my message) if you want...heh... it will let you waste another hour or so...
