Nah. You don't need the blip. You'll do just fine without it. Go grab a book and sit in a chair with a table in front of it. Put something on the table. Hold the book the way you would to read it but look above the top of the book (at the object on the table). Notice the pages of the book in your peripheral vision. As you get comfortable, slide your eyes down without changing your focus. Eventually, you'll get comfortable with looking "through" the book. You'll see the text and the whitespace around the text without actually having to focus on the text (that's a bit of a battle at first).
