Hello,

After reading the website and some of the posts, I'm utterly confused as to what photo reading is? Is it just a matter of taking a quick photo, of say a page, and recalling words on the page without necesarily comprehinding the matireal? If that's the case, what is the value in that? Wouldn't I still have to read the matireal in my mind's eye? Any help would be appreciated. I have 3 and 1/3 years left in a Masters program and want to make this experience as pleasant as possible.

Thanks
Matt

Nope, just read the "Works on all material" article, it will answer your questions

No. PRing is about "photographing" pages, but those "pictures" go into sunconsciousness where they're analysed and combined with your conscious and subconscious knowledge/memories. In order to bring that knowledge into consciousness you have to do some activation.

There is spontaneous activation - something triggers part of "picture" and you know although you're not sure how. That's the most amazing part. However, you can not rely on that. So, you have to activate "manualy". That takes time, depending on material and your attitude. If relaxed, subconscious can send info to conscioous so you gain knowledge/understanding quickly, otherwise you approach to it in traditional manner and that's what we're all running away from.

PR requires that you use it. The more you use it the better you get. At the beginning PRing should enable you to learn and fully comprehend material in 1/3 of the time it would normally take you. NOT in 5 minutes.

Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for your answer, Jovo. So far that is the best answer I've received on 2 posts I've made concerned about what to expect with PR. It almost completely eased my thoughts of what I would be getting into with this program. Almost ;-).

Ok ok..so I won't get the quick results that I've been expecting without practice. But let say I decide to practice these techniques for a solid year. What minimum results could I reasonbly expect? Would I be able to activate the information more quickly. Lets say I read a complete encyclopedia...say the letter A...if I'm able to activate it (even if it took me a whole hour) how much of the matireal would I be able to comprehend and remember in detail?

Again, please do not give me a "well, everybody is different" answer ...I think I'm being fair in just ask for minimal results for practicing the program for 1 year straight. I'm not even asking for average results

Sincerely,

Matt

You want to know how long it will take to activate the encyclopedia for the letter A. You want to know how much of the encyclopedia of the letter "A" you will comprehend and remember in detail in an hour of activation?

PhRing is not about activating the WHOLE of anything. The premis is 20% of all material carries 80% of the meaning. You are always shooting for that particular 20%.

It is possible to actually learn how to PhR by just carefully studying the book. Purchasing the book will answer your questions. If you have discipline and are willing to try a totally different approach, you can accomplish a lot in just a few months. A DF is a good place to start, but it is not the best place for making decisions. For under $20 you can buy the book. Then if you have questions while reading the book, post them on the DF for clarification. However the book is easy, fun, intelligent & exciting. It's a treat.

After a year of using PRing you should be quite proficient (otherwise you'd quit ). There would, of course, be room for improvement, but you'd most likely be improving your skill versus building it (as you are in the beginning).

Margaret hit the target with this:
---------------------
PhRing is not about activating the WHOLE of anything. The premis is 20% of all material carries 80% of the meaning. You are always shooting for that particular 20%.
---------------------

What this really means is that you will not know every single word from that encyclopedia, but you will know (maybe even before activation) what you're most interested in. You WILL know/understand info which would get your attention if you were to read encyclopedia now, in a regular manner. Your brain filters and classifies info somehow, and it makes the most interesting (to you) info and makes it most available to you.

If you would be dying for info (in a positive way ) from that encyclopedia, you'd know almost everything after activation. Since, no one is so interested in whole book, no one (or should I say rare people) can activate what they're not so interested in. So, if you're realy interested in 20% of info (which is usualy true) that's what you get after activation. If you're interested in 50% that's what you'll get. If you're not interested, and PRing just to 'practice' than you'll get (close to) nothing.

Bottom line is: PR helps you learn what you're interested in much faster. Your brain is smart enough to recognize imortant and interesting info. That is why you (and every PR beginner) should start with books you're interested in.

This is my opinion. Since I'm not proficient photoreader I might not be right, although I'm quite sure I am.

Interesting thing: photoreading a volume of an encyclopedia set. Hmmm . . . I somehow feel that photoreading an encyclopedia would later prove to be useful as we learn new information in the future. The information we acquire from photoreading the encyclopedia would connect with the new information and provide us with a deeper understanding of whatever it is we are learning. Whatcha think, folks? I don't know much about PRing, so please let me know if I am wrong.
