The efficacy of 1000 things that I use daily in my life has never been proven. Yet I use them, because they work.
Case in point: my toilet seat. I don't care whether or not it has been scientifically proven to add comfort to evacuation...
What matters is the experienced result..comfort.
or...I enjoyed the relaxing effect of blue walls as a child years before a study came out telling me that blue walls were relaxing.
Scientific proof or knowledge of 'how' something works can never hurt, but I deem it wholly unnecessary. I experience beneficial results regardless.
This requires both a willingness to explore, and the assuredness that I don't need to know everything about something in order to use it.
