You wanted concrete advice, so here it is.
Comprehension and the amount of time it takes to achieve that comprehension will come with time. It's like learning to ride a bicycle, nobody gets it up and going the first time and they have to keep trying until it works.
If you need to learn something important in your life as you are learning to Photoread, don't try to learn that with Photoreading only. Pratice your skills on something that you don't need immediately and read what you need the normal way until you are more confident with Photoreading.
Another reason you shouldn't learn on important things, aside from the possibility that you might fail a test or something like that, is that you don't have to deal with the stress of 'having' to learn something. Tension will kill your ability to relax when trying to Photoread and that will lessen the effects.
