My eyes naturally focus clearly between 3" and 10". Beyond 10" is not clear. This is a typical myopic condition. When I look in the distance (without glasses) there is no strain though I'm seeing a blurred image if I don't strain or "try" to see. If I read a book just out of my range of clarity I am actually relaxing my eyes as they are always relaxed when focused beyond their distance range. For me that's beyond 10". Myopic specialists are often instructing their students to NEVER read with their glasses unless their vision is so weak they can't focus comfortably - say less than a few inches. As my glasses bring a distant object to a reachable distance for my eyes at an apparent 10", reading with glasses would bring the book to an apparent distance of just a few inches which severly accelerates myopic conditions resulting in people constantly be prescribed stronger and stonger glasses. My point in all this is that there are many, many people out their that are myopic and if they need to wear their glasses for this process to work, then that will make their myopic conditions all that much worse. Incidentally, many points Paul makes in the PhotoReading book are also used in myopic vision therapy. I found the connections there fascinating. Maybe someday Paul will write on vision therapy.
I look forward to you response and clarification of this most important matter to me (and what should also be important to most myopics out there that are eager to retain their eyesight and maybe improve it as I and many others have done.)
