Hi, I just got to the Star of Wonder Exercise and I'm not quite sure how to set up the mirror...Here's what I do...
..............\....mirror
...............\
Head..........C
Neck..........A
Body..........S
.......Paper..E.Manual
......TABLETABLETABLETABLE

Now the directions say to "trace the star", what is meant by this? I just drew what I saw in the mirror and completed the star in about 15 seconds. It's not a perfect replica of the star, nor is it the same size, but it is oriented in the same way as seen in the mirror. Did I do this right? Am I one of those people that Paul does not talk about in the second tape that suffer from "brain lock"?

Thanks,

LBS

With the "Star of Wonder" exercise, you hold up a mirror in front of you and the workbook. Do not look directly at your hand, but by watching your hand in the mirror, try to draw a line within the borders of the star.

Thanks a million Dana, now I know what Paul Scheele means about Brain Lock...the first run through I got half way around the star, then started going around in circles...the second run through after reading the instructions of what to do after experiencing brain lock made me able to trace the star within 30 seconds. I can see how this applies to PhotoReading, but now i have another question...this method assumes that we are all familiar with the shape of a star, and presumably, we are familiar with the phrasing or structure of the words our subconscious sees when we Photoread...what if we come across a new style or material written by a foreigner who doesn't quite know the grammatical syntax and symantecs of the English language? Won't we still have brain lock?

Thanks

LBS

What is Star of Wonder exercise and how does it apply to PRing?

The Star of Wonder exercise is part of the Home study course...it comes up on tape 2 side A. It shows you that reading and comprehension happens behind your eyes, in your mind, and if you try to just rely on your eyes, then you experience something called "brain lock". I know that this probably doesn't help answer your question, but I think it's best if someone like Dana or someone else from LSC explained it, or you got the course.

Thanks for your reply lastbronxsega.

I've got a PR book but not the course. This exercise sounds very interesting. If someone from LS could explain to me how to do it I'd appreciate it.

The Star of Wonder is part of the self-study and the life seminar. You will get it with either of those.

OK Dana. I suspected you'd give me that answer.

Can you only tell me if it is possible for someone to be unsuccessful in PRing due to that "brain lock"? Or we "unlock" it using the system?

What I mean is, can this exercise help one with PR or is it more like coctail wheene exercise (it shows something new, but isn't neccessary for PR)?

Hey Jovo, although I just finished Tape 2 of the home study course, I think the Star of Wonder exercise is a bit deeper than the cocktail weenie effect. The SoW exercise has some wow effect like the CW, but it shows you that what you need does not always come from what you see. See, the exercise has you trace around a star on a piece of paper by relying on a mirror image of the star. The brain lock idea is that when people just rely on what they see in the mirror to trace the star, when it comes to changing directions, their hand-eye coordination gets all screwed up and you hand starts going in circles, or backtracks, or pretty much does nothing. The course tells you how to get past the brain lock by NOT relying on what you see in the mirror, but instead to rely on what you already know in your mind...the shape of the star. With that known, you only use the mirror image as reference as to whether or not you're on track, and when you have to change direction...see, everything happens "behind your eyes" in your mind, not in your eyes.
I hope that answers the question.
Take care,
LBS
