This russian guy went by the name "S", as far as i remember. I`m not sure, but i think Win Wenger covers him in "The Einstein FActor". If not, then it is Tony Buzan.
Many times the things he remembered were symbolized by something else. For instance, the number "5" could be a picture of a pentagram in his head. This way, his memory wasn`t totally photographic.
