Hi all,

I want to ask how you prop the book up so it is at a 45 degree angle when reading. When I place it on the photoreading case or on a stack of books, the book is not very stable. I've also tried a stand, but it doesn't allow much room for turning pages at the top. Anyway, I don't want to be restricted to certain 'stands' or 'gadgetry', so was wondering what you all use and find workable.

Kenneth,

I personally use my own two God given hands to prop the book.

Try not to use 'bookstands' or such as you already possess all the necessary tools to PR!

Kenneth:

I exclusively read with one leg crossed over the other with the bulk of the book resting on the thigh of the leg that is on top of the other, and my left hand underneath the left side of the opened book. This works for me and is a very comfortable position because it's relaxing.

I do the same as Allenhm. It works very nicely. I then "look at my leg" to gaze through the book. It helps me to not notice the page flipping, which can sometimes pull me out of focus (because my eyes tend to follow moving things).

Somewhere in the course it states that one should sit with both feet on the floor. As long as I can remember, I've never in life have read a book this way. To me that position is not natural and very uncomfortable for me. The key to photoreading is to be in a relaxed state of mind and body and to me sitting erect with both feet on the floor is contradictory to that statement for me.

The key really is to prevent an uncomfortable posture. Prop up the book some so you don't wrench your neck, and feet flat on the floor so your leg doesn't fall asleep if it's crossed.

Point well taken Dana, before my leg goes to sleep (numb) I'm usually done photoreading and up walking around and engrossed in some other tasks around the house or gone to bed for the night.

Thanks for the replies so far,

Michael:
When you say you use your own God-given hands, how do you actually prop the book up usin your hands (one hand under the book, or two hands at the side or what?)

Do any of you prop the book up against a stack of books?

LEVENGERS has great protable metal book stands. I got it for PhRing & use it for all kinds of things. It's the one that comes in different colors like yellow, red, blue & is $25, or around that. You can throw it in a backpack easily.

I put a piece of soft foam on the book stand & i also use a soft piece under it so that no matter what the size of the book, it does not slide.
