I am having a hard time using PR to read technical material. I am a college student, and my advisor gave me 8 large books to read before the summer ends. He told me to write a report on a topic of my choice incorporating material from the books. I am having no trouble understanding the main concepts of the book. However, the grade for the paper is based upon the number of specific terms and concepts that I use from the readings. It seems like I take so many passes (comprehension in layers) that I am reading no faster than when I started the PR program. I've tried to follow all of the steps outlined in the manual and book, but I worry about skipping over important information that could cost me a grade. Any suggestions?

Also, I'm having big troubles with sub-vocalization when I read. Even though I try to search for meaning in phrases, I find myself saying the words in my head anyway. Thanks in advance for the help.

First, a few questions:

Today is July 25th. When did your instructor give you this assignment?

You said so far, you have no problem understanding the main concepts in the book. And now, you want specific detail. How many 30-minute acitvation sessions have you spent on your books so far?

How many books have you fully activated, where the entire book"gels" and you have full comprehension?

It's been a month and a half. I have one month left. I waited to start until I got my PR program about a month ago, so I'm in a rush now.

About 40. I started to keep a log of all of my study sessions, so this is pretty accurate!

One. It was about 200 pages, and took over 6 hours until I was comfortable with the material.

For heavy technical material, it is better to create a Mind Map for each chapter.

Are you adding to your Mind Map at the end of each activation session?

Yes, but each time I pass, I form more and more questions when I find something that I don't understand. Maybe my questions are too specific...

I do that. They are rather large mind maps!

Yes.

As the structure starts coming together, continue to craft the mind probing questions with the key words from each concept, so you're building comprehension from "whole-to-parts." Add branches on your mind maps at the end of each 30-minute activation pass.

Also, PhotoRead a couple of the books each night right before sleep, and do a Postview. Your inner mind will process those affirmations while you sleep.
