If you're new to the PhotoReading system, don't beat yourself up over not having the level of familiarity you want with the book. Opening up that kind of other-than conscious connection doesn't happen over night(at least for most of us).
With SuperReading you don't want to go so slow that you're subvocalizing. A word here and there is okay, but not too often. When I rapid read it seems like I'm remembering hearing the words spoken, like I'm subvocalizing extremely fast in three to five word clumps.
You can get whatever out of a book you want, you'll find what you look for.
