I was having some thoughts about your super paraliminal sessions. I think Personal Genuis might be a waste of time in this case, because problem solving and creativity cannot be learned in this way. You can set your mind up for learning, but only continual use of your mind would improve those abilities. oh oh oh oh, no! no no no, it can't be! at least, I don't think so. You may be right. Let's examine this. This has not been my experience at all. My mind has been on FIRE these past couple days.
Okay, here are the factors to consider:
I. 2 hours of meditation--proven to do wonders for the mind.
II. 2 hours of listening to paraliminals in delta trance-- 'may' do wonders for the mind
III. REM sleep deprivation (in my experience) causes the conscious mind to recede and the gate to the subconscious to open--after a while, it starts to feel like someone is prying your two frontal lobes apart with a crowbar.
It's either one or a combination of these three. I'm open to the possibility that the paraliminals have nothing to do with it. If anything though, they help me enter and stay in a deep state of meditation MUCH faster than normal.
Memory, on the other hand, could probably benefit a lot from this process.
I don't know, but something tells me that memory is just not rocket science. As long as you believe in your ability to remember, know how to focus, and then be able to associate with what you want to know, you should be able to develop a near perfect memory without a hitch.
Could we not develop belief in our genius abilites *in the same manner* that we develop belief in our memory? Neither tape operates, to my knowledge, with any type of rehearsal or visualization or practice. --Paul S. appears to be using the same techniques on both tapes--that is, methods to implant beliefs in our innate abilities.
So, if PG is a waste of time in a mega-session, then wouldn't MS be a waste of time also, given that they are the same style tape with the same style goal? --building faith
Also, if we cannot learn genius abilities without continual use of your mind, as you contend, then even listening to the PG tape in the conventional manner would be a fool's errand, no?
The way I see it, the key goal of both tapes is to inculcate Belief on the deepest level, which is beyond traditional teaching and learning
The idea that we need to practice in order to get better at something is a different perspective that Paul S. doesn't seem to be dealing with here. --when you "truly" believe in your natural latent abilities, as in the case of wenger's 'borrowed genius' technique, it is my experience that you WILL see an increase in ability WITHOUT practice.
Signman,
“WHAT IF EDISON HAD GOTTEN 8 HOURS SLEEP EACH NIGHT AND NO NAPS?”
I think he would have still made the advanced that he did. Maybe just on a longer timetable.
I find what you say intriguing. This is a pretty important issue since there are high number of geniuses who have had irregular sleeping patters--so I just want to explore the possibilites:
I. Irregular sleeping patterns CAUSE genius. (playing with theta either through a. more sleep or b. theta deprivation or c. hypnogogic naps.)
II. Genius CAUSES irrelgular sleeping patterns. (ie, the passion of thinking and creating keeps them up into the wee hours or taking naps instead of snoozing) (Einstein not only was a prolific napper, but the absolute minimum time spent alseep for him was 9 hours, and, if I recall correctly, he regularly slept as many as 12 hours(?)) (Edison had 4 hours and plenty of catnaps) (I think Da Vinci was *just* naps) (and you mentioned Tesla)
III. There is slight correlation in terms of *rate of discoveries*, as you suggest. (that geniuses are able to skip over a lot of traditional 'trial and error' exploration and jump to the good stuff via the 'ahas' brought on by irregular sleep.
IV. There is no correlation between sleep and genius. --seems very unlikely.
The first three perspectives appear feasible.
The question is, which one belief could potentially serve you the most?
Pragmatically speaking, wouldn't it serve us more to believe in Belief #1?
Why? We are not all geniuses (at the moment), but we CAN play with our sleep, and if it turns out that either #1 is true or that my belief in #1 makes it true... then that puts us one step closer to geniushood!
The other perspectives (though possibly true) just don't give us the option of using sleep manipulation as a means toward increasing our genius abilities.
Peace
