Okay, here's a silly question. Have you ever realized when reading to yourself how you say each word in your head while reading whatever it is you're reading? Someone told me that, when reading to yourself, you are NOT suppose to read the word then [subconsciously] say it. Doing this slows your reading by a 100 folds because there is no way we can talk as fast as our mind can take in information.. Is this true? and those of you who PR have you learned how to NOT say the words in your mind as you're reading them? I say everyword I'm reading and I know that is why I am such a slow reader but I can't seem to make my mind stop saying what I'm reading..

The main thing in straight up reading, which I wouldn't recommend , is Concentration, focus, and purpose, takes great concentration to focus on what you are reading and not to subvocalize. Photoreading should solve your problem if you take the course, would work great for helping you get over the subvo..

IF YOU WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR REGULAR READING, HERE IS WHAT YOU DO: USE YOUR FINGERS. FOR EACH LINE OF TYPING PUT YOUR FINGER UNDER THE SPOT WHERE YOU ARE READING, THEN MOVE YOUR FINGER ONE INCH TO THE RIGHT. IN THE BEGINNING YOUR FINGER SHOULD HOP THREE TIMES PER LINE OF READING. YOUR READING SPEED WILL INCREASE AND LATER YOU WILL ONLY NEED TO PLACE YOUR FINGER UNDER THE READING LINE TWICE. YOU MUST RELAX AND CONCENTRATE AND DO NOT RE-READ ANY WORD IN THE LINE. PRETEND THAT YOU ARE PHOTOGRAPHING EACH GROUP OF WORDS THAT ARE ABOVE YOUR FINGER. IF YOU PRACTICE THIS EVERDAY FOR 30 MINUTES ON EASY READING MATERIAL, YOU WILL BECOME A SPEED-READER. TO STOP YOURSELF FROM SPEAKING THE WORDS IN YOUR MIND, CREATE A MANTRA WORD FOR PRACTICE SESSIONS ONLY. SUCH A WORD THAT I USE IS "DAH". TWO FINGER HOPS PER LINE MEANS TWO "DAHS" PER LINE. EVENTUALLY, THE PHOTOGRAPHIC (VISUAL) PART OF YOUR BRAIN WILL (IT REALLY WILL) TAKE OVER.

I USED TO READ 300 WPM, BUT NOW I READ 500 WMP WITH FULL COMPREHENSION. WHEN I WAS A 300 WMP READER, 500 AND 600 WPM SEEMED IMPOSSIBLE. EVEN NOW 500 WMP DOES NOT SEEM VERY FAST TO ME AND I KNOW THAT IN TIME I WILL ACHIEVE MY GOAL OF 2000 WMP, AND HOPEFULLY WHEN I ACHIEVE THAT GOAL, I HOPE THAT 2000 WPM WILL SEEM SLOW. I THINK THAT BEFORE HE BECAME A PHOTOREADER, PETE BISSONETTE USED TO SPEED-READ 8,000 WMP.

JUST ONE MORE INTERESTING THING. I BORROWED A VIDEO TAPE FROM MY LOCAL LIBRARY ABOUT ACCELERATED LEARNING. THIS TAPE EXPLAINED THAT THEY WERE USING HYPNOTISM AND VISUAL AND AUDIO SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES. SO I THOUGHT "GREAT THIS SHOULD WORK". GUESS WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS ABLE TO READ THE HIDDEN VISUAL SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES. HERE IN CANADA VIDEO TAPE IS 30 FRAMES PER SECOND (IN THE USA IT IS 24 FRAMES PER SECOND). ASSUMING THAT 25,000 WPM IS 13.8888 WORDS PER 30TH OF A SECOND, I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS AMAZING THAT I COULD READ THAT FAST. I WONDER IF IT WAS MY ABILITY AS A BEGINNING PHOTOREADER THAT ALLOWED ME TO READ THESE SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES WHICH APPEARED EVERY 15 SECONDS IN THE VIDEO TAPE.

A few things:

1.Don't ever use caps in an entire message because ppl wont read it or be very annoyed.

2. The USA (and most of the world I believe) uses 34 fps not 24.

3. 500wpm isn't much.

4. Best way IMO to 'normal read' faster is to not subvocal what you're reading. It does wonders. Give it a little time and patience and you will realize the wonders it does.

Darwin,

In your defence, I assume that your keyboard cap lock is broken and you have no other recourse but to type in all upper caps?

to not subvocalize you must move your finger over the words to a rate which you don't have time to subvocalize and let your mind absorb it like watching a movie. it takes practice but increases comprehension and speed immensly

Thank you to everyone, I will try moving my fingers faster over the words or keeping them about an inch beyond what I am reading. I now have the course and I'm on tape 3 but when I was doing the exercise I didn't get any of them right.. The dictionary, got zero correct, and the reading or super reading and dipping I couldn't tell you what I read to save my life.. Oh well, I know if this does not work for me I can send this back. My brain simply may not be geared for this, I'm dyslexic so there may not be anything that will be able to help me. I won't give up yet.
