I took 3 days off to do the course and that was a MISTAKE because I blasted thru it in one day and basically was so fried I just horsed around for 2 days. Letting info incubate while you do other things is a must.
Taking a few hours and PRing to get to the point of 70% comprehension is GREAT, I don't see what the problem is with that. You can probably do it all during class while the other students are asking moronic questions. PRing a whole 800+ page text would take under 15 minutes. You can superead, dip, rapid read and mind map during the class and you would not have to study at all! My hardest class in terms of grasping the info was Philosophy. We had to read for hours and be able to spew out "know thyself" and stuff like that. 99% of what we read was not on the tests but we all slow read it for nothing. Like I said, I wish I had this when I was in college.
The #1 BIG problem (not really a problem but...) with the course is the fact that they have you PRing 2 good books that are worth slow reading- The Photoreading book and Natural Brilliance. Almost everything in these books is cool. The "4-11%" relevant information is true for MOST books and for almost all text books but not everything. I was relieved to see that pleasure reading isn't abandoned. I'm not going to PR MAD Mag but I'll definately PR something like Muscle Media Magazine. You are not supposed to throw away slow reading but are supposed to do it as a last step. Rapid Reading can get pretty slow when you finally find what you really want to know as a result of doing all the other steps and when you do it you've already got it reviewed several times. I'm looking into topics I never thought I'd ever have time for because of this. Instead of reading one book a month I'm previewing and PRing 10 and reading 1 every 2 days. My biggest problem in starting this was I was in the habit of reading whole books for 1 or 2 ideas and I thought I would miss them if I PR'd them but what I'm finding out is if I blast thru 10 books to find 1 of them with alot of info in them I could use, the trade off (in terms of TIME and what you get out of it) is definately worth it.
