I started on July 9th with the book and just got the course this week and am on my second trip thru it. I had my first "gelling" experience Sunday night (the course came on Monday- nice timing) so it took me just under 2 months to understand a little bit of it.
I was doing most of the PR tech's exactly right, the problem was I wanted to be like the guy on TV and remember what I read on the spot. I also wanted results I couldn't even get with regular slow reading. So after I got over all that and started comparing my reading now to what it was like a few months ago- I saw a huge difference. Most books would take me a month to read because I would drone over the meanings and words and only read a page or 2 a day before I got bored. Total read time would be around 4 hours. Now I make multiple passes with different techniques each time. After about 20 minutes (most of the time over the course of a few days- 5 min a night) I have this big broad "feeling" about what the book's about and the last thing I do is rapid read the whole thing in about 30-40 minutes- most of the time I'm skittering past stuff I don't care about and SLOW READING what I do care about. Going from 4 hours to 1 hour is cool.
My first impressions were "I'm not remembering anything" and now I'm seeing that most of the book (ones I practiced with at first) is useless to me and if I would have slow read it I still wound't have remembered much because it would have made any impact on my memory then either.
When I do find a GOOD book that I want to slow read I'll do that.
The course forces you to do things you may have skipped over from the book. I'm glad I got it. I didn't have the money either and had to beg for overtime.
