Your way sounds better- to take notes and then mind map later. I was saying to do the MM during class too, if you can. I'm also assuming you've read the info the prof is lecturing about and that the class would serve as activation. In most of my classes I had a sylibus so it wasn't too hard to figure out what was comming. Taking notes the normal way is a must and if you want the MM to tell you which part of your notes to go to for furthur explaination- that's what the numbering system was for. If you can't MM during class, who cares, you got the notes. In most of my classes the prof took enough "side paths" during the lecture to allow it. If you got one that throws info at you that you can't read before hand, this really can't be done.
