I was quite appalled watching interactive Sky News the other day. There was a poll asking: "Are civilian casualties [in the coming American attacks on Afghanistan] acceptable?". 54% of the people had voted "yes". Why are these Afghan civilian casualties acceptable, but the Americans (and other people in the WTC) not? What exactly is the difference between targeting civilians and targeting military installations and killing civilians as collateral damage? I'm sure that to the families involved, there is no difference.
Just as a matter of interest, did the people in the USA (or anywhere else in the world) hold a day of mourning and fly their flags half-mast a few years ago when the IRA killed 20-odd people in Omagh?
