I purchased the Photo Reading book. I have read most of it. However, I can't grasp it. I don't know if I just don't understand or if I am not getting the information out of the book. Has anyone else been successful with just the book.

Yes. What helped me alot was going thru and reading EVERY post on this board, I think there are 13 pages of them. It will take a while but just do it.

Also, before you go to bed every night (for a while) just look at every page of the Photoreading book and say to yourself "Brain, we don't get this now but we will. Think about it when I sleep." As stupid as it sounds it helps.

Sandy,
There are main steps: prepare, preview, photo read, activate.

1. Read only the part in the book that deals w/ prepare. Then do what it says. Then if you have questions, ask them. Formulate clear questions that describe your difficulty. Once you get the answers here. Then go back & refine your prepare step.

2. Do the same for each one of these main steps. Take your time to understand each step. Don't be in a rush to just PhotoRead. Be willing to learn the process. Paul calls it: a whole mind system. So, it's a system. YES, a couple yrs. down the road, you'll feel like it's all just one big fast flowing step. But, not in the beginning.

Good luck

Sandy,
I think many fellow photoreaders would agree that the tapes are easier to follow but the book says all of the same stuff. One of the things stressed on the tapes is the part of previewing where you ask yourself "What do I want to get out of this book." (stating your purpose) Even though you are learning to photoread by reading, I don't see why stating your purpose won't help. Before you read any further in your book about photoreading, get into the accelerated learning state (if you have gotten that far) and once you are fully relaxed, repeat to yourself what you want to learn. I see no reason why this shouldn't clear things up for you. Good luck.

To me the only part of the book that wasn't good enough in relation to the tape was the relaxing. I know relaxing sounds easy enough, but the state you get into when Paul guides you through it and the state you're in when you try to do it without the tapes are very very different. I've been doing the program for awhile now, and even though I can get in a very similar state, I still pull out the side B of tape one every now and then. Scheele is the man =)

PS - even though I still haven't activated the "Brilliance" book yet.

That's very true. Of all the things I was doing wrong, getting in the learning state was something the tapes cleared up. I found my mind saying to Paul, "get on with it man, I'm relaxed already, cummon, hurry up" proving I wasn't very relaxed and showing me that previously (just using the book) I was NEVER in the Accelerated Learning state before with probably contributed to my frustration.

You can do it without the tapes if you use a timer or practice ANY other form of meditation. Paul's way was outlined in the book but a newbie mistake would be to blow it off or do it too fast like I was doing. I was also Superreading too fast in the beginning. He starts you out at 8 seconds per column, like a column in an article. Seems too slow at first and my natural reaction was to speed it up.

I don't know if anyone else has tried this but I use the Memory Supercharger Tape before I Photoread that gets me supercharged to learn and I think it helps me get more from what I photoread. Since it is only about 20 minutes long I don't find it cuts into my other activities that much besides it's helping me in a lot of other areas besides just being able to photoread better.

It's one of the Paraliminal tapes they sell on this site. It comes with the Photoreading course but you can buy it for $15, I think.
