That's very true. Of all the things I was doing wrong, getting in the learning state was something the tapes cleared up. I found my mind saying to Paul, "get on with it man, I'm relaxed already, cummon, hurry up" proving I wasn't very relaxed and showing me that previously (just using the book) I was NEVER in the Accelerated Learning state before with probably contributed to my frustration.
You can do it without the tapes if you use a timer or practice ANY other form of meditation. Paul's way was outlined in the book but a newbie mistake would be to blow it off or do it too fast like I was doing. I was also Superreading too fast in the beginning. He starts you out at 8 seconds per column, like a column in an article. Seems too slow at first and my natural reaction was to speed it up.
