To me the recall is better. When I photoread a novel, I PR it, then I rapid read (what you might call speedread) to activate it. But then using the super read + dip method to get out different themes of the book, I end up going through it around four times altogether, in less time then it would have taken me to read it just once using regular reading.
The problem with regular reading is that you have to read it, understand the grammar, get out the context, piece the plot, understand symbols and underlying themes, and also have predeliction or distaste for the book at the same time. With a conscious mind that only handles 7 bits of info at a time, this process goes slower. When you even speedread, you end up in a "flow" where you just take in the info, also when you activate information in PRing.
Some people may say that this makes pleasure reading too apathetic-like. You could argue that it just makes it different, but even if that argument doesn't work, the great part about PR-ing is that you don't have to stop regular reading. I'm NOT going to speedread or PR the Tao Te Ching or a Dan Millman book, but I sure will PR Mill's "On Liberty".
Sum:
1) For me, the information is much more vivid and much stronger.
2) You don't have to stop regular reading if you don't want to.
