My friends and I have seen the PhotoReading Infomercial on TV and have heard the advertisement several times on radio. However, each time we have called the 800 or 888 number that has been "handed out" we have encountered very aggressive and pushy sales guys who seem to have no idea about how the system works. Furthermore, they seem to want to complete the sale as quickly as possible before the customer has a chance to realize what he/she has gotten into.

My friend, with whom I have discussed PhotReading, who happens to be a 1500 words per minute speed reader believes the system is a hoax. Just yesterday he gifted me the $15 Photoreading book by Paul Scheel and said that I was likely to get as much out of the program(which costs $250) as I would from the book especially because PhotoReading claims that it is far more easier to learn than speed reading. For those who have had experiences with both the book and the tape program can you please shed light on this.

Again I am not looking for any Photoreading is awesome...Ra Ra ra kind of affirmations but a logical explanation about how the system really works. In all honesty the people selling Photoreading pitch it in a manner which seems too good to be true I naturally have my doubts because my grandpa told me "that if something seems to be too good to be true it is just that"

I would love to hear from you folks

hey, wat's up? course you got doubts..it sure sounds too good to be true, dont it? well, the BEST way to read up on it is by growing throug the hundreds of messages on this forum....if you look at the thing on the bottom where you can choose to "jump" to a certain section, that'll tell you exactly what the course is about. plus, if you scan everything, you'll find both positive and neg comments, which should help you make your decision. Plus, if you read the book, you'll find out that it's not about reading faster...i.e. your friend will proly still read faster than you as far as straight reading goes, it's more about getting through material quickly (there's a difference..i.e. you dont gotta read everything).

book has all the info. the course guides you through it..it takes less time to learn/more practice/etc etc etc

p.s. not a "magic" trick...takes tons of practice..tho it's more fun practice, unlike speed reading practice.

Andy, if what you are saying is right, means that the claims the Infomercial is making are intended to mislead.

They tell you that you can "photograph" pages in a fraction of time by using your brain. If people want to do selective study why do they just not get cliff notes. Also when you are reading a new topic how can you swlectively determine if something is relevant or not. Can you please explain this?

Last but not least how is PR practice more fun&enjoyable speed reading practice? Awaiating your response

Yes the system does work.

I bought the book just under to years ago now and i love it. You don't need the course but you will be in for a bumpy ride (It is one fun ride) if you don't get it.

Speed reading is great, I am still improving my speed. Photoreading teaches you more than just reading. As a result you learn how to read with better comprehension and enjoyment.

Don't get caught up with the 25,000 word per minute. Just know it will improve you speed three fold. So thats three times quicker, better comprehension and enjoyment.

Go for it read the book.
you will not be sorry.

you do photograph the page in less than a sec (or every 2 secs as they say in the book). the time comes in in "activating" the material (read book). the informational guy did "spontaneous activation" (read book), so he got the info right away from his subconscious ...but that takes skill...something he's been practicing for 15/16 years...the only actual claim made in the commercials are increase of 3x of speed, not "reading" speed, getting through the material speed. the program is called "the whole mind system" to use your whole mind. selectively reading material doenst really give you a good understand of it, while photoreading, then activating does...(after practice of course...and like i said the practice comes in in learning how to extract the material from your subsconscious, you gotta learn to listen to internal signals, etc).

so, basically, here is what it copmes down to:

if you believe that the subconscious can really absorb/learn material (there are studies to support this, as well as real life examples) ... then this is the course for you...if you dont, then it may not be, the best way to figure it out is to read the book first. tha's teh most important. you can get answers to most of your questions from there.

"If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

Actually in EVERY SITUATION ON THE PLANET YOU WILL EVER ENCOUNTER there are always 2 truths available at the same time. If you don't believe me read the bible, Tolstoy, Emerson, Vernon Howard, Thoreau and even our big toothed Tony Robbins says it.

Anyway, the book is all you need if you are a person that can listen to instructions and do the work on your own. If you aren't that way then you really have to get the tapes. I had to get the tapes but by the time they came I did get the book to work but the tapes cleared up alot that I didn't understand. It all WAS in the book but for some reason hearing someone say something creates the impact I actually need to finally "believe" it.

You are not the first to complain about the infomercial or company that takes the orders. I'm pretty sure they're in the process of changing one or both of them.

I had a rough time with the sales guy too. I just wanted information, and sadly enough (or perhaps fortunately) he talked me into it. One thing that upset me later was that he said they were having a "sale" and that the course is normally $315, but that they would knock of $100 if I buy it now. Then I saw it on this website for I think $245. I mean, I saved money, but it was based on a lie.

They should just air the news report. It's much more convincing, and much more truthful.

Oh, but the system does work by the way. Very very well.

Hey Ahdy. You are going philosophical on me. What I would like to know is

1.) How long does it take to get through
the course or book

2.) How long does it take to get used to
the photoreading technique and how much
daily practice did you need to reach
your current photoreading level skill

3.) How soon can we start seeing results

4.) Does this technique really work on
technical journals as the seller claims
or does it only work for "luxury" reading

5.) What's there a difference between
"getting through" (a term the sellers
repeatedly use) and "reading" a book?

1.) How long does it take to get through
the course or book

You could do it in one day but you will want to go thru it several times. When I got my course I did 1/2 of it (almost) everyday and by the time 1 month was up I had gone thru it 10 times.

2.) How long does it take to get used to
the photoreading technique and how much
daily practice did you need to reach
your current photoreading level skill

The PR step is easy and there's no "getting used" other than believing you have the Photofocus gaze WHEN you actually do have it. There are enough "options" (blip page, 4 corner technique, "X" technique) that anyone can do it immediately. Using the course someone could realistically get to where I'm at in about 2 months. The course is JUST alot faster than the book. It would be best if you wouldn't compare yourself to anyone else because everyone's different. We hear that all the time, so much that the idea is diluted but it's still true. Do what you can in the time you have you WILL get better and better everyday- even if you don't notice it initially.

3.) How soon can we start seeing results

I saw them the first night I had the book- my dreams were really vivid and I knew something was going on. Every single result I got after that was the result of me doing something else "right" and letting go of something that I was still believing or doing "wrong" so technically the more willing and eager you are the faster you'll see results. I had a strong speedreading backround so I had more to let go of than most people. You can probably learn it faster than I did, because I KNOW you can't be as stubborn as I was.

4.) Does this technique really work on
technical journals as the seller claims
or does it only work for "luxury" reading

It works BETTER on technical stuff than it does on pleasure reading. That's what it's really FOR. It's funny you should ask that because I think that the belief that it's not for pleasure reading actually MAKES it difficult for me to use it on novels and things like that. That's the belief that I'm currently working on breaking down because I want to start using it on philisophical stuff and novels. Photoreading can be done immediately on books that you want information out of. I think it takes more practice to use it on other types of books.

5.) What's there a difference between
"getting through" (a term the sellers
repeatedly use) and "reading" a book?

"Getting through" is all you have to do to most books. "Reading" is what you'll do to what you WANT to read. It doesn't mean you'll go back to slow reading with what you want to read, though. For instance, when I got the book "The Einstein Factor" I wanted to read it but first I wanted to just get a few ideas out of it about Image Streaming. I did that in a couple minutes but later went back and did all the steps on it. When I got to Rapid Reading I got incredibly bored because I already got what I wanted out of it so I just said heck with it. My favorite book of all time is "Johnathan Livingston Seagull" and I slow read that all the time because I like the adventure of it. Sometimes I'll just read a few pages and then sit there and "reflect" on it. Books like that are so rare though. If I were to Photoread it I would get to the point of it quickly but in that case it's not what I want. If you want to get to the point of a book you run thru all the steps and from there you'll have the choice if you want to go thru and enjoy it. With novels, PRing won't spoil it but you'll have "hunches" as to what's comming next. Plus, some novels waste time and it's nice to be able to vary your rapid reading (or even slow reading) speed from time to time.

The most important #1 thing you can do to see results RIGHT NOW is to spend more (than you want to) time creating purposes and mind probing questions because that makes reading PERSONAL. A billion people may read the same book and get different things out of it. Purposes and Mind Probes tell your mind specifically what to "suck" out of the book. If you have no purpose and no questions it will all be a blur.

Another thing to consider is what you want today may change tomorrow. If I read a financial book and I want to know about Option Spreads then I can't complain if I skip over a bunch of information about Mutual Fund Moving Strategies. Your purposes may change as you read because you're learning more. As you learn, YOU change. Someone once told me that your awareness of something makes it real TO YOU. Your unawareness of something is the same as that thing not even existing. So if you PR a book and miss something, you're not ready for it. This is a problem that's not unique to PR though. We all have slow read books only to remember only 1 or 2 things from it. Then someone tells us what we missed and then we go back and WHAM, there it is, but why didn't we see it? I have no idea why that happens but at least with PR we can get past that quickly.

A fresh perspective:

My studies on the mind and how it works (prior to any knowledge of PR) have lead me to believe completely that your mind inputs absolutely everything you have ever sensed. Weather it is by sight, sound, touch, taste, or smell... your mind has recorded it forever! Now that is a whole lot of information! To think that we are only supposedly using only 10% of that mass between our ears - wow! Anyway, our mind deals with all this information in many ways. One of the minds favorite ways to deal with information is to store the info in a temp location (like RAM in a PC). Only when you shut down for the night, your mind is at its peak. It shuffles, categorizes and files information and a lot of this can be witnessed through dreams. Even more so apparent in the all to festinating world of lucid dreaming (another very long but awesome subject - Ra, ra, ra - really!!!)

Anyway, that is why the PhotoReading concept appealed to me so much. You do record all you see and all the PhotoReading system does is teach you techniques on how to consciously retrieve the information that was inputted. And as the old saying goes, "practice makes perfect", is what determines your skill or learned speed and ability to "spontaneously activate". We are only human after all. All things worth learning are worth the time and effort and I believe this is one of them. I personally feel God out did himself with the Human brain but I'm afraid we have to relearn how to use it to its intended extents.

I just started this PR stuff and have many similar questions and I am sure they will come for all of us who really want to find out and do not give up. But maybe going at it with this perspective could be helpful to you.
