Maybe some of you can relate to this anecdote. Prior to learning how to PR, I used to spend hours in the bookstore browsing. Being a programmer, I spent most of my time at the computer books. Eventually, I would find a couple that seemed to cover the subject that I was looking for fairly well, and I would buy them (at upwards of $40-50 a piece). It would take me at least two weeks to get through each of the books and I still wouldn't fully understand the subject when I was done.

Now I spend about the same amount of time in the bookstore. I take about an hour to preview and PR a handful of books that interest me. Next I go grab a cup of coffee and relax for a while, maybe looking through some magazines. Then I go back and try to activate the one or two books that looked the best. I usually get the info I need and don't have to buy the book. Sometimes I will still buy a book, but only if I want to do further activation or keep it as a reference. Now when I buy a book, I'm confident that I'm getting my money's worth, and not just buying a dust collector for my bookshelf.
