it's a complete waste of conscious activation to read books which aren't on your knowledge level. You are obviously seeking to become knowledgeable or expert become you become aware or familiar with the principles, facts and ideas involved.
if you read a book at it's too hard, change what you're doing. Find a simpler one, find one for little kids, and start there.
maths is a totally purpose driven subject except in the higher regions of algebra and calculus, where it becomes more playful if it hasn't been made boring by formal education first. Sharpen your purpose!
I also recommend XXXX Don Passos' wonderful books on how to experience the world mathematically. By a PR and a quick one hour activation of his book 'Innumeracy' I totally shifting my way of thinking about maths as a difficult arcane abstract and unworldly subject. He describes how every waking moment we may be thinking in simple modes of probability, statistical analysis, and algebra, in his amusing essay on the mathematician crossing the Brooklyn Bridge.
You can enjoy more maths more easily by clear purpose and playing with the simpler stuff.
