Forums IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ PhotoReading, Memory Optimizer Regarding MP3 conversion

I asked rex_dickens in the other thread for access to his ftp site to get his MP3 files of the taps. He hasn't responded yet. So I'll go ahead with my own conversion now.

I recived my tapes last night and am sitting in front of a tape deck and my computer, with the MusicMatch Jukebox ready to do the conversion.

My question is for anyone knowledgeable of this:

1. Is there music with subliminal messages in any of these tapes? If so, would MP3 compression have an impact on them? I would use 128kbps anyway, as my ears can hear the thinness brought forth by lower bit-rate.

2. Should I set the Dolby B or C when recording or should I leave it open and record everything including the great amount of hiss on the tape?

3. Which tape contains the left/right channel testing?

Well, the experiment didn't yield satisfactory results.

My computer (Amarda M700 notebook) doesn't have Line-in. So I have to use the Mic-in to couple with the Line-out of the cassette deck. I don't know if it's because the different impedance between Line-out and Mic-in, the recordings contains a metalic, sort of echoing noise that I can't tolerate. I tried Wave, it didn't help.

I don't have hardware to make the Line-out compatible with the Mic-in at this time. Can anyone who's an audio/HiFi export provide me with a simple solution?

You know, I had started to make AUDIO files of the tapes for dumping to CD. I used raw 32 bit sampling and the sound was ok. Using a few editing programs with pretty standard noise reduction filters I got a really nice set of files for the first 3 tapes. The problem is that the whole process is too darn tedious. I never got past the 3rd tape. since then I've decided to wait until the publishers make everything availible on CD.

Thanks for the response. I haven't been able to practice the course so far. I did go through the tapes just to know what they are about. I decided that it's not worth the effort to do the transfer. Only the Memory Supercharger contains paraliminal messages and may be the one I'd regularly listen to. The other tapes' content are easy to remember.

My problem of making the transfer is that my computer doesn't have the Line-in jack. So I had to plug the Line-out signal into the Mic jack. This may have contributed to the abnormal sound quality.

As for CDs to come, unless they are free, I doubt I'll invest in those. To me, the difficulty lies in finding time and good environment to read and practice the exercises, not just comfortably listening to the voice instruction.
