I've been trying PRing for about 6 weeks now without much success. I'm confident that the system does work and I'm trying to get it to work for me. I think my big problem is relaxing during the PR step (to much stress in my life right now). I'm trying to learn several ralaxation techniques and I'm seeing some improvement in my state of mind during the PR step. Another big problem I have is interruptions. My day, both at work and home, is filled with interruptions. If I am interrupted during the PR step, I just start over and don't consider that a real problem. During activation however, I often have to put the book down in the middle of a half hour session to take care of other issues. When I get back to the book, I find it difficult to get back in the groove. I've tried cutting the activation time down from 30 min to 15 min but feel rushed. I,m looking for some input from others that may have experienced the same problem.

How are you being distracted? What things are distracting you? People? Work? Objects? Sounds?

Im interrupted by all sorts of things. At work, my job is mostly crises driven so my phone rings quite a bit as well as my email is very active. I need to respond quickly to issues. My job also entails technical planning and being able to guide my customer with their technical plans. To do this, I need to stay current, reading a large number of documents. Right now, trying to stay current is a losing battle with all the fires I need to fight. I'm hoping Photoreading can turn that around, but the constant emergencies aren't helping. We tell ourselves that if we can help the customer plan better, there would be fewer fires to fight. But we can't improve the planning because we're too busy fighting fires.

At home, it's a different story, I've got a 15 month old daughter and my wife is expecting our second. It seems that every time I try to activate a book at home, my daughter comes in with a book of her own for me to read to her. There is no contest what gets my time at home, hangin' with my daughter is an incredible joy, a lot of work, but a joy. When we finally get her off to bed, I'm just plain too tired to do anything.

Michaelbe,

My former supervisor's email box use to be flooded with emails. He old me a 'secret' to emails. Read the at the end of the day and respond then.

Ringing phone at work ... voicemail.

If you have an office, close the door. Scatter some papers all over the place to make it look like you are deep into work.

At home, my favorite trick is to go into the washroom, close the door, pretend your doing you know what and PR ... trick is to do it in about a 20 minute session. Any longer, and the wife might catch on!

As for your little girl ... the fact she wants you to read to her is a fantastic thing. You would be doing her a great service. It's a great way to bond. It helps you to remember to enjoy life. Kids are only kids for so long. Now here's the trick, every so often, have her pick a book from daddy's pile!

I know the feeling of tired. I too have youngin's and another is in the oven!

One suggestion is to get up an hour early in the morning than you usually do. Here's why. When you wake up, it a new day, it's a new you, its a new start, it's a fresh start, it's a clean slate, a new beginning. It's like being born again ... learning/reading in the morning is refreshing as the body/mind have had time to recouperate.

Michael suggests cutting it down to a 20 minute session, but this, you may not be happy with. (It's not that far off from the 15 mins.)

Another tip is to just try to imagine that everything is GOING to work out fine. It doesn't matter what happens, things will work themselves out. Just relax, and play with getting the information you want out of the book in whatever time you have.

I'm trying to break the sessions up to shorter times, I'll give 20 minutes a shot. But once interrupted, it's usually some time before I can get back to reading, sometimes several hours. As for letting the calls go to voicemail. Sometimes I do just that but the nature of my job is that I need to respond quickly. One of my methods of isolation used to be my "office annex" down the hall, a.k.a. men's room, but my cellular service provider improved their coverage in the area and now my cell phones routinely rings even there. Talk about annoying. BTW those calls always go to voicemail.
