That brings up an interesting theory. Could entertainment, especially musical bands that are in the 'punk rock' and 'heavy metal' categories be the backbone of rising political problems of self expression, and open exposure to all content?

I actually adore Limp Bizki and Rage Against the Machine. You wouldn't think it as I tend to listen to more cerebral music.

I listen to it for functional purposes. It gets me pumped. Gets me ready for action. Gets me off my butt. Gives me raw energy in spite of myself. It rouses me and there's nothing I can do to stop it. (especially w/ hot trampoline action.)

There are any number of blocks between where you stand right now and where you want to go. And they are all internal. This music gives you the power to break through those blocks. Forcefully. With rage. And you know what? ... it works! Perhaps better than anything I can think of. When get angry, you stop at nothing.

You mentioned 'self-confidence'. I'd definately agree with that, at least with those two bands, as they are the only two I am familiar with.

On the last track of 'Chocolate Starfish Hot Dog Flavoured Water' album, an ivy intellectual type makes fun of Limp Bikit. It's quite amusing. One of the things he says is, "Yeah man, I'm so down with your message, 'shut the f-uck up', yeah, I think that's just a great message to put out there, you know?" Well, he was being sarcastic, but... I'm inclined to agree.

This is entrepeneurial music! It's for people who want to keep themselves moving, keep momentum up. For bigtime movers and shakers. It's for overcoming fear and internal barriers to affect massive change.

Functional. Eminently functional. You just have to be able to deal with the crassness--which is part of the emotional magic.

Limp Bizkit is like the Tony Robbins of his generation--his sole goal is to get you ready to kick butt! Only he's a lot more blunt than Tony. And his technique is tons easy to follow. All you have to do is play a track and let yourself get angry! No NLP or trances or anything of this nature.

NLP and all this mind-play stuff is so ... involved and cumbersome. Whereas music is direct and effortless. The emotional state you desire, the energy level you desire is one play button away...

Think about it. If all you are after is a specific emotional state so you'll make and follow up on the proper decisions... do you need NLP or psychobabble stuff about conditioning and trauma and fear? Why can't you just play a song in your head instead of playing with mental pictures?

Thesis: Emotional state determines happiness and goal achievement. Music changes state more easily and quicker than any other one thing.
