What does everyone here think of fighting? Recently, I've been approached with it. I hate fighting.

Well, the movie Fight Club offers up fighting as a bona fide path to enlightenment. Pretty strange movie. The idea being that you a. forget who you are, and b. lose all sense of fear as you are in the mix.

Loss of self, loss of fear, bashed in face...

youngprer,

My general view on fighting is to do what you can to avoid it, within reason. Sometimes you have to fight, but most times you don't. Without knowing the details, it's hard to offer specific advice. If there is an adult around that you can confide in, it may be worth your while to seek some more personal guidance. Judging from your other posts, you're a very mature 13 year old, I'm sure you'll make the right decision.

When I look back on my childhood, there are a lot of stupid things I wish I never did. Then again, there are a lot of stupid things I did that I would love to do again .

Michaelbe says I'm a very mature 13 year old. Well, I feel that same way, but. . .that's kind of disappointing. Part of me feels like I've missed out on lots of things. I don't have many friends. . .but that's mainly because I don't get along with a lot of the other kids at my school.

All of them are completely concentrated on their status. "He's a wuss. I could kick his ass, anyday." I've had a lot of depression in my life, for about three years straight two years ago, too. . .

Through all of the things I've been through(perhaps not a lot, I realize, to what many of you have been through), I've gotten more common sense than a lot of my "peers" have gotten.

I've gotten to the point where I feel that there is a simple picture in this world:we're all connected to each other in one way or another. . .in a way. . .everyone is brothers and sisters.

It's like. . .that's a simple way to put it, but what more reason does a person need to stay out of a fight? It's like. . .who cares about your country. . .it's a NAME. The world could come together as one if it really wanted peace. No, I don't care what anyone else says. It's not more complicated than that!

Tyler Durden, though he has reminded me of myself, and others all the time throughout the past, and that's definitely the movie I think about the most in my life. . .is NEGATIVE. That movie is horribly negative. lol

I love that movie. It's my favorite movie, but it's horridly negative.

"If you asked me now, I couldn't tell you why I called him."

I know how you feel, but the way people are today, it pays to defend yourself. and Martial arts or any kind of defence would be perfect to Direct Learn.

Just look in the papers and listen to the news. Its sad but true, the world and the people are in pitiful shape when the only way they can settle something is to fight.

nnnot entirely. good and evil is not an issue to someone who does not dwell within duality. Hopefully when you become enlightened, you're heart opens and you fill with compassion. Else, you become an invincible criminal mastermind. Tyler is fearless and utterly unself-conscious--is this not the goal?

Also, fighting has always been associated with altered states of consciousness--it is often difficult to separate martial arts from meditaiton.

Like the Matrix--that's a movie and a half! He fights better and better the more he loses his fear and sense of self.

Neo gains a sense of self, the way I look at it. He doesn't loose it. And yes, he looses fear. It is true that you fight better the more calm you are, which is why two people are able to go at each other at the start of the fight, and are likely to be exhausted by the end. It can be an emmotional workout, as well as a physical one.

And actually, I related to a lot of the views in that movie. I don't find it that strange. Before PRing, I was really into that kind of stuff.

The end of a serious fight is never a good thing. Someone comes out severely hurt. Last year, I got into a fight with a kid named Bert because he wouldn't stop pushing stuff off my desk. I told him to stop several times and so then he pushed me.

"Whacha gonna do about it?" he said.

I responded by punching him in the face. Now the truth is, he was actually a little bit taller than me, and possibly a little bit stronger. I've never thought of myself as a tough guy. So he starts trying to punch me in the stomach, and meanwhile I'm blocking his shots and hitting him in the face. . .sooner of later:he gets me in a headlock.

Thanks to my past training in karate, I had gone through. . .ehhh. . .3 or 4 belts. Helped a lot though. Because then I used a move on him. It turned the whole thing around, and turned it around for good. Twisting his wrist, and throwing him over me onto the ground, I twisted futhur.

He starts crying. . .and so I stop. He's on the ground moaning. Me, quite angry, as you might imagine , get my books and place them on my desk. I sit down and wait for whatever happens next.

Now during this, I said some stuff to Bert, but due to the nature of this forum, I feel it would be inappropiate.

But even though I won that, and that's the excuse that everyone uses to say I'm a good "fighter" or whatever, I'm still pretty scared of fighting. I know for a fact:I can't win every time. . .and besides that, I've got that whole point of view I mentioned on one of my posts above.
