Hopefully when you become enlightened, you're heart opens and you fill with compassion. Else, you become an invincible criminal mastermind. Tyler is fearless and utterly unself-conscious--is this not the goal?
Also, fighting has always been associated with altered states of consciousness--it is often difficult to separate martial arts from meditaiton.
Like the Matrix--that's a movie and a half! He fights better and better the more he loses his fear and sense of self.
