Hello, folks. This looks like a very good forum. N.B: Although this is addressed to Pete, I would also welcome helpful comments or suggestions from anyone who has faced and/or overcome similar difficulties.

My concern: Nearly four years ago, when I first became self-employed, I foresaw that my old patterns of procrastination and self-sabotage might keep me from producing the income I needed. Therefore I ordered nine tapes from LSC, including Prosperity, Get Around to It, New Behavior Generator, Self-Esteem Supercharger and Personal Genius (and Perfect Health, since getting sick is one of the favorite ways the mind can sabotage one's progress is all else fails). For a few weeks I listened to them consistently--in fact "hammered" on the main ones--with no discernable results. By the time I realized that they were not helping with my specific problem (i.e. procrastination and chronic low income production), it was of course past the 30-day refund period. When I asked for help via phone, it was suggested that I basically spend (when the prescribed tapes were added together) at least two or three hours per day listening to the tapes... which I felt I could not afford to do. At that point, I lapsed into listening to the tapes only occasionally, for relaxation purposes.

My question--now that I have continued to struggle with the same problems, have gone bankrupt and am still limping along in the income department (even though I now have a means of producing good income in just a few hours per day, I mysteriously "can't" get myself to DO it)--is, what causes this resistance? A history of severe (in the "Sybil" category) abuse in infancy and childhood may have deeply conditioned a belief that I am "powerless" to help myself--despite an IQ measured in the genius range--but should that be allowed to continue to rule my life and sabotage my performance? I believe that anything which has been conditioned can be DE- (or re-) conditioned--regardless of the dramatic nature of the "cause."

I am genuinely interested in learning how I could get the results which seem to come to others. Perhaps I need to stop "trying" (i.e. to "whip my behavior into shape" via the tapes and other means) and just simply "pretend" that the tapes are working? This (i.e., "acting as if") is, in fact, a well-known NLP technique. Would Pete or another LSC person please take the time to respond to this? At this point, I have spent over $150 on tapes and would really like to get the results which (I still believe) may be possible. Thank you for your help!

P.S: Pete, feel free to email me privately if you feel that is more appropriate. The reason I post it here is a belief that some others must also experience this kind of resistance (even if only to a lesser degree), and that perhaps addressing this issue here would be of help to them as well.
