Hello again. Thanks to "21" (may I ask what is the significance of this user name?) for the helpful suggestion.
Pete: as I said this (phone conversation w/LSC) was some time ago, and the advice I got--which amounted to listening to several tapes per day--was given to me in about August 1997. Perhaps the approach has changed since then. I still have the list of recommended tapes...
In any case, it is a relief to hear that you feel I can get results without taking such a big chunk out of each day. Another thing the person told me is that I really need to focus on what the tapes are saying--NOT just "drift along" with them as is suggested in the package directions. Do you have a comment on that?
The tapes I feel would help most--if I can get my mind to cooperate--are Get Around to It and New Behavior Generator. Money is the biggest issue, and my behaviors which either help or hinder that seem to be the place to focus. Which of these tapes do YOU think would be most effective in overcoming a pattern of anxiety/hesitancy in DOING the kinds of things which bring in income? I believe that an entire set of behaviors, rather than just one, is at issue here...
A note: it feels stressful (when I try it) to visualize along with the tape when it comes to any form of goal-setting. It feels as though I am trying to force something, and it tends to generate a sense of futility. I have found this to be true of almost any form of goal-setting, as though getting too strongly focused on a goal is the "kiss of death" to ever attaining it. [This is probably due to some strong childhood conditioning.] How do you suggest I deal with this?
Thank you in advance for your help on this. I think there must be others who, like myself, have a strong degree of "psychological reversal" when it comes to taking a direct approach to attaining goals. If you can help me with this, they may benefit as well. Some of us are "differently motivated."
I look forward to your reply.
P.S. As for the results I would like, that would be: engaging in enough income-generating activity to at least meet my expenses each month (for starters) and preferably twice that amount (which is easily possible if I just DO THE WORK). Again, focusing on specific amounts of income (as in conventional goal setting) seems to backfire on me--as though something in me is determined to ensure that I always achieve less than I intended. Suggestions??? Thanks!
