During the last five years of reading, researching and being part of groups which have turned the photoreading system inside-out, I have repeatedly found that beginning photoreaders have unrealistic expectations about activation.

The biggest misconception I have observed is the notion that activation is some *mystical* process which happens when you least expect it. Mistakenly, many believe that photoreading is a way of dumping information in your head through unconscious processes only to bring it back out through unconscious processes. Nothing, I mean NOTHING, could be further from the truth.

The PWMS is a an active SYSTEM. It is a way to consciously make an effort to take in information into your unconscious. Then to, afterward, reinforce the information in your unconscious through conscious processes. Skimming, skittering, brushing, reading along the authors train of thought, etc. are all conscious activities.

Information DOES NOT mystically "bubble" up with no intention. Don't expect that to happen. Photoreading is not a new, promised mystical or spiritual system of being superhuman. People who believe so only frustrate themselves because they expect it to be so. And, when it doesn't happen - they think something is wrong with them.

You are perfect. The System is no different from any other conscious-skilled based speed reading system except in one respect - Photofocus and accepting information visually while in photofocus.

Do not expect a difference. A benefit is being able to bring out unconscious information through your OWN creative processes. That's how to activate.

Commonsense, you said that you are using Photoreading for 5 years? Can I ask you how much time you spend to photoread and fully activate a book? I'm going to take the seminar, and reading some real testimonial is a great help.

Hey! I know this is going to sound like a little bit of a run-around, but bare with me here.

The amount of time it takes depends entirely on the material (ie-length of text, number of pages, amount of illustrations, background knowledge I already have, etc.).

The photoread step continues to get faster and faster for me each time due to familiarity with the process. The activation step also continues to get easier as I better define what techniques I'll use to activate the material.

For example, I used the system to read Influence, the Psychology of Persuasion. It took me about 1.5 hours to get what I wanted out of it.

Gaiden, there are so many variables that others might read the book in 30 minutes depending on what they wanted to find out.

Just remember to keep your expectations realistic on the system. If you wanted to suggest a text to me that would be a good read to compare your "time" with mine that would be fine.
