Hi, Jens (et al):
I have started listening to Get Around To It as follows: Side A before going to sleep (which is twice a day if I get my regular nap) and Side B when I awaken. Other than that, I think I will just have to pretend that the tape is working and "act as if" (unless Pete has a better suggestion).
I am at a critical point right now, where I need to do some focused and substantial work NOW in order to keep my apartment [yes, it really is that bad; I've lost two apartments (and nearly lost a third) in the past two years, and have lived below the poverty level for many years, due to this problem--so we are talking about a serious (conditioned) "disability" here].
Fear doesn't seem to be a sufficient motivator any more, so I guess a "playful" approach is worth a try. Certainly a serious "goal-setting" approach has always failed me, so maybe I can set my head to make this a "game"...
Whatever works, as they say. Let's hope that something does work this time; there's a lot riding on it (but I guess I have to act as though there isn't).
Funny thing: I know that if someone offered me a million dollars if only I would generate X amount of income in the next two weeks, I'm sure I could do it--probably because it would be a one-shot deal and then freedom from the "grind" from there onward.
But just the income itself--so that I can then keep plodding on the treadmill--does not seem very motivating. Hmmm...
I'm already doing the most palatable (or least unpalatable) thing I can for a living, short of living on residual income (which would be great)--so how do I motivate myself to give it enough of a "push" to get me off the treadmill and into a better situation, when I know it could take months (if not years) of sustained effort to accomplish that?
ANYway, my understanding of GATI was that it could work whether I feel "motivated" or not. That's why I bought all those tapes to begin with--to bypass all the decades of garbage conditioning and negative experiences which have made it so difficult for me to do well.
Comments, anyone? Thanks!
