Think about something you know...maybe, let's say...brushing your teeth. Now, how is brushing your teeth the same or similar to preparing to sit down and study? Think about it....no, I mean truly think...how is it similar?
Now, how did you know how to correlate the two processes together? Did you think about it more generally to figure out the similar concepts? Did you derive a metaphor for it? Or draw an analogy?
Your creative insights are the ways both consciously and unconsciously you activate material. You draw out unconscious insights about the material that you read.
That's activation...
For those with formal logic background, activation is about inductive and abductive logic.
