I've found that peripheral vision, like most everything else must be exercised, or it weakens. One exercise I do, sitting on the couch in front of the tv, is to hold a golf ball in my hand, keeping my eys focused on a point straight ahead, toss the ball straight up and try to catch it again. I vary the height and angle of the throws to add difficulty. As a side benefit, it improves eye/hand coordination, which I believe is absolutely dependent on peripheral vision.

Peripheral vision is so important, and so underrated. Try driving a car without it. It truly is amazing just how observant we are if we would just stop and take notice.
